Trouble shifting into 1st

2007 Cobalt SS 2.4L 5-Speed

Intermitantly, when I'm stopped, I have trouble putting my car back into first. I have to keep ramming it up until it finally goes into first.
I got a service call booked for next week to get them to look into it.

Anyone know what could/would be causing it?

I Have this problem occasionally. If you slip it back in 2nd and then go back to 1st it works like a charm though.

i usually put it into neutral, release the clutch, then push the clutch back in and it will go into first no problem

same, good advice. Never had any trouble like this with my cobalt, but with other manual cars I have owned, and mainly in the winter time.

Hmmmm In the Car Manual eh?

Thanks for the heads up guys.
Oh and I notice my car, when shifting into third, it feels that the shifter is grinding into the gear, not the clutch itself, but it has a metallic sound to it. No other gear does it.

MIGHT just be the synchros. My Acura RSX-S would do it in 2nd. It actually would just flat out deny the shift sometimes. In that case... people that went to the dealer to get it "fixed" in which they replaced the synchros... still had the problem.

been discussed before. something about the linkage not matching up. if it does it just go into second with the clutch in and it will slide back into first. This is what the dealership told me when i went for my service call

that third gear grind is not good... make sure you duplicate the problem for the sirvice writer or they'll say "ehh its fine"
