Trouble shifting into gear?

I have the 2.0. Once in a while when i go to shift into first or reverse, it's like I hit a wall and can't get in. I pull it into second (or fifth, if I'm headed to reverse) and then back to where I was trying to go, and it slides in no problem. It happens maybe once a week, and I know that knowing my luck the dealership won't be able to duplicate it. Anyone know what this is, and what I can do about it, or, what I can tell the dealer to make them fix it?

I have the same problem occasionally when I go to start my car after letting it sit for awhile, it doesn't go into reverse, it just stops. So I keep engaging the clutch and letting it out while each time I try to get it into reverse and eventually it does. Not sure the problem

I know there's been alot of problems with the shifter fork assymbly inside the tranny. Specifically there's a roll pin in there that tends to break off.

tittd=take it to the dealer

I'm going to. I just know it doesn't happen enough for them to be able to recreate it, so I'm worried they won't do anything about it. I was hoping there was a TSB or something I could point out to them that would give them a clue what to look at fixing.

a lot of manual transmissions do that. in fact, if you look in the manual, that issue is noted there. The remedy is to depress clutch and then shift if it feels like you're hitting a wall.

Yep happend to me tonight...common problem with 5spds I do believe the two manuals I have owned both Getrag transmissions do this. Just either have to shift down to 2nd with your foot on the clutch then back up to first that works or you can let it roll and put it in either works.

what you are describing is perfectly normal. what happens when it wont go into gear is the teeth on the sleeve and teeth on the gear itself are lined up exactly, and nothing is able to rotate that slight bit to allow it to slide into gear. the correect way to overcome this is to either let the car roll forward a tad, or let the clutch out, push it back in and try to get it into a forward gear, if you put it into reverse right away like this it will likly grind.

the syncros in the transmission don't always line up perfectly as stated above. either rolling the car a little or pop it in a different gear first (if it won't go into first, throw it in second and then back to first; if it won't go in reverse, throw it in fifth and then reverse)...letting the car roll a bit is the best way though
