Trying to figure out the problem

This morning, on my way home from work, I noticed that my ss/sc was running just a tad odd. So I started trying to see whether it was just my baby showing a bit of age, or whether it was a problem that needed addressing. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that it wasnt running properly and was sort of running odd with a loss in power. Was still showing boost, but was extremely hesitant to get anywhere over 2500 rpms on the highway I was on. AT that point I said Im only a mile or so from home, I will try to make it, and just baby it.
Soon after that thought ran through my head, I heard an extremely odd noise from under the hood, then the car immediately lost all mechanics, aside from interior lighting and electronics. I coasted to the side of the road and tried to refire it, but I just clicks one time, and will not turn over at all. Im at a lose here as to what it could be. I just replaced the battery about 3-4 months ago. Oil is good, not seeing any flecks or metal shavings. No leaks anywhere, checked the ground after the rollback grabbed it up. There was no smoke or any other discharge from what I saw, my passenger and me both, were checking mirrors. There was no cel, or any other form of alarm on the dash. Nothing. I am completely baffled here css.net. Help me out here??
On a side note, I do take care of it, as far as fluids, and maintainance. I dont beat the **** out it either. I love my sexy bish! Any ideas?

Check your spark plugs?
I have no idea really, but if one or more of your plugs decided to go out this could happen.

If you heard a noise, and it wont start now, first check your belt, then check your alternator to make sure you dont have a broken positive cable to the starter, make sure your sc is not seising on you, if all looks fgood, check your timing chain ( Bad lol), if that is good, check for cracks on the block, if all looks good, compression test, if that is good, do a leak down test, if that tests good jump start that bitch if it has good everything, if not keep on diaging lol. you could have seized the motor, check oil lol, that should be the first thing lol

Im thinking its the Crank Position Sensor. Just went outside and tried to crank it, it tried to start but ended up dying again. There wasnt any belt squeal or anything though.

If you heard a Boise from the engine bay ten it is not gonna be a crank sensor unless the crank came loose and hit it lol

Well, I ordered the sensor in any case. Had it towed to the dealer to get it replaced. They are saying the engine is seized up and will have to tear it down to figure out why exactly its seized up.
Guy at the desk told me the tech went outside and tried to crank the car, and it seized up when he tried to crank it. I dunno why you would try and crank the car when I had already told him all of the above, plus the fact it finally tried to crank, and when it did I promptly shut it down due to it running extremely oddly. In any case, I guess I will find out what exactly the problem is sometime tomorrow, I assume.
Any ideas what could help it seize up? Like stated above, its up to date on all of its shots, aside from needing rear pads, lol. No leaks anywhere, nothing in the oil, no shavings or anything. Guy told me that its probably a piston.....

not at all sir. Talking $550 to tear it apart and tell me whats wrong. I was hung up on the whole "Well sir, It seized up when the tech got in it, and tried to crank it." part. Almost lost my marbles, but my bro brought me back to my sanity, before I went retarded.
So, $550 to tear it down, $550 to put it back together, plus whatever is screwed up and its installation, figuring at least an $1100 bill.
Pay to play though right?

Well, after starting with the timing chain, the problem became evident. A screw for the timing chain or sproket somehow backed itself out and dropped down. Its caused a good bit of damage. Thinking its gonna be a new motor. *sigh*
Chain also got a bit loose and took out 2 other screws inside there, and one of the plastic (runners maybe, not sure of what its called) broke off so there are shavings and plastic bits in the oil. Tech said he has never seen something like this happen in his 20 years working on cars.
Sux to be me eh?

I work at Ford, and our rate of labor is a flat rate of $75/hr. So if you knew how many hours it would take, you could base it off of that I suppose.

Either way that sucks.

Meh it says 9.1 hours R&R I can't justify 1100 in labor only on a engine replacement. Tow it to a different shop order an engine from Jasper and be done with it.

Come to think of it I did a 2.4 replacement in a driveway 6 months ago, it took us just over 7 hours with beer and bullshit breaks.

only 372 miles out, you should ask if they will do anything at all since it is not that far out..

Did they tell you which bolt walked its way out. I had the same thing happen on mine and bought a new motor. My bolt walked out on the top guide and in conjunction with a junk tensioner allowed the chain to jump teeth on the crank gear. I pulled the valve cover off and needle bearing were everywhere from the rockers blowing themselves apart. If they isolate which one walked its way out I'd be curious to know which one, because obviously someone at the factory made a boo-boo. Hopefully yours won't turn out as badly as mine did.

Oh it did. Im gonna be buying another motor in the next week or so I assume. Then probably gonna trade it in and get the evo I have always wanted.
As for which bolt walked its way out, is hard to tell, but from what the tech said, it was just a freak accident. One of mine backed out, one, the head got ground/tore off, another it just ripped the whole damn bolt out. I will try and grab some pics/look to see if I can discern which one came out. In any case, Im gonna take the old motor with me and figure out what can be salvaged. If nothing, part it out and use money for a down payment to go along with trade.

They always say its a freak accident when something like that happens. If you ask me, when it happens on more than a couple of the same motor it is a problem that needs to be investigate into a little bit. The bolt that walked on mine was the one that has an access plug to it on the top guide. When mine came out it got lodged in place and didn't fall down in the case. Well good luck with whatever happens man!

9.1? WTF are you smoking? thats not customer pay times.....Alldata for a complete engine with no transfer of parts is 10.8, a long block(which is what youll get if you replace the engine usually) is 17.3!!!!

As far as the 2.4 replacement in 7hrs with beer and BS breaks?....definitely possible, especially if car was an automatic, LSJs take more time, thats all there is to it. And regardless of how long it takes, if you know flat rate times you should understand how they work.....times are how long it takes, the time is just how much it pays....

Id say $1100 to tear down and then rebuild an LSJ is pretty reasonable at a dealer.

Well, got my new motor, just need to get my stock manifold and d/p back in there with the stock belt and it should be running fine. On a side note, the place I bought it from doesn't have a core charge so I get the entire motor back. Not to mention it even came with the s/c on it. Sooo... will prolly have an almost complete motor for sale. Time to start working on the sale thread. Make some of my money back.
