Two CEL's.. One recurring, one new..

Hey guys.. Please bare with me..

So, I was driving on the highway yesterday.. No biggie.. I was just driving along, and the CEL popped on.. The car started driving really off.. But it was fine before the light came on.. After scanning today, turns out it's P0011 which states a bank 1 camshaft position actuator a, timing over advanced. Great. On the way home, I just babied it until I could get to the parts store. I scanned it, cleared it, and now it's fine. I'm sure it'll pop back on again at some point in the future though.. Any suggestions on fixing this? The cars only current mods include an exhaust and intake.. Catback only.. Had a header/dp last year, but now back to stock on that.. Aside from that, stock engine-wise.. Never been cracked open more-so than to replace plugs with new Iridums last summer.. always ran 93 gas, and constantly ran synthetic oil since the first personal oil change (either mobil-1 or Valvoline every time).. The second (and recurring) CEL is code P0301 which reads cylinder 1 miss-fire. Would these both be inter-twined? The 0301 started coming on last year, but didn't mess with it over winter.. I was told to try to swap the plugs with other cylinders and see if the CEL follows to another cylinder.. If so, replace the bad plug.. Aside from that, possibly a bad coil-pack.. That a likely set of issues? I'd assume that they're both inter-twined since they both appear to be cylinder 1.. The VVT seemed very sporadic too while the CEL was on.. I'd accelerate, no *****, then it'd grab for a second, then back off again - all while flooring it.. Damn autos. The car also randomly kicks the t/c light on and the car shifts hard while losing traction control. That's happened now for well over a year on and off. I planned on cracking the engine open to powder-coat the valve cover, but I don't know. I can't mess it up.. lol I'm just worried that the computer will really get pissed off if I rip it open..

Any suggestions on how to correct these problems would be much appreciated.

Sensor and camshaft chain? Explain.. What sensor and what the hell is a camshaft chain? It sounds expensive and likely not something I'll do. lol

Really? No one can say anything here? It's nice how if it's not happening to you, no one cares. Lame.

This is a thread fro ma few years ago. This is the closest I got to an answer, but it was never resolved. Any ideas?

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0011

Something about replacing a camshaft sensor? Any idea how much that costs or how hard it is to install? Even if it's costly, if it's an easy install, I'll just do it when I paint my valve cover..

And for the cylinder 1 miss, it sounds like Stroker had the right idea..

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0301

But any other comments? Do you think both the P0011 and P0301 are related? Could the engine miss be throwing off the camshaft sensor or vice-versa? As in, I fix the camshaft thing and the miss will go away? I also read the miss could be caused fro ma slightly off idle. My idle sporadically drops a tad (feels like you just turn the ac on and the idle drops a tad). I have newer Iridum plugs with probably like 15k on them, and I installed a new fuel filter about 8 months ago. I always run 93 as well as run synthetic oil and all that. Should I just even check the gaps on the plugs first? A slightly off gap would cause a miss too I'd assume, correct? Would running a really good injector cleaner help you think? I'm still on stock injectors with a stock ECU tune. Only mods are intake and catback.

Lastly, and clue about the sporadic tranny issues? The hard shifting, miss-shifting, and t/c light?

Please.. Help me out here.. Otherwise I may drive this car over a cliff..

The cam position sensors are located on the drivers side of the motor. They are mounted at the Camshafts. I do not beileve they are hard to replace, but you may need a CASE relearn done after replacing them.

The cam position sensors are usually fairly expensive as well.

Is it something you can replace without ripping the engine apart? IE, removing the valve cover and such? I'll be removing it within the month to powder-coat, however I'd rather not do both at once if not necessary..

And by expensive do you mean 500+?

Is this something that should be wrong? It seems rather odd that I only have basic bolt-on's and baby my car and it gives me this ****..

I have never had to replace them so I am not sure what all needs to come off. I do know that when you look at the drivers side of the motor the cam position sensor and sensor housings are on the top of the motor right next to the vlave cover. I am pretty sure you don't even need the valve cover to come off to get to the cam position sensor.
