Understanding Warranty Laws

Hi All,

I've read a few interesting post/treads about folks talking about installing "dealer installed factory kits, stage kits from GMPP, aftermarket kits or products", and have heated verbal fights with the service rep/mgr., that they (service rep/mgr.) say the kit/product will void the new car warranty or the warranty as a whole because the item is installed.

I have first hand knowledge on this, I'm not an atty by any degree, but I've worked at many of the Largest Law firms (WC, LSKD, WLRK, etc) in US, and I've read MANY (over 150 pending cases) of large and small cases and files related to this. In which many clients come to the law firm upset and disturbed on the fact - they purchase a product (either big/small ticket items) which has a warranty and the product failed, and the vendor/marketer doesn't want to cover their own warranty.

We must thank Congress for passing FEDERAL/STATE LAWS that protects US the consumer in cases like this. There are major laws like the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" which help us to recover and protect every one of us from a manfacture/ dealer/ distributor/ or public/private entities who market products or items to the public based on selling an item/ product with a warranty to monetarily gain from the sale of the item[s]/ product[s]. And various State laws which protect US the consumer as well.

Under Federal LAW - "no manufacture in any type of industrie that sells an item with a warranty (various types) must fully abide by all federal and states laws in regard to sales and marketing of any said item[s]/ product[s] sold in the US or it's TERRITORIES, DISTRICTS, & POSSESSIONS." and "when a manfacture/ dealer/ distributor/ or public/private entities - states - (either verbal/written) "we will not cover the said warranty for that item they are/ have sold/selling/marketing, and the item/product which has or has not failed under warranty", "the manfacture/ dealer/ distributor/ or public/private entities will be subjected to legal recourse in federal district courts" for failing to abide by Federal or State Warranties Laws.

I hope this helps, because I sure know when to pull it out of my pocket and use it.

Thanks for the great info, i work for a dealer and we totally respect and abide by this law, we also understand that aftermarket parts rarely are the cause to mechanical problems. Glad you could shed some light on this
