along the lines of what mr.oaks said, i have a similar porblem with mine, and the dealership noticed that the transmission mounting bracket was rubbing against a steering component. they reset the mounting bracket and it went away. fyi
There's a TSB for that problem. It might not be the exact thing, but it's worth a try.
The 07's, like kovich14's, has a different TSB for the turning noise.
06 TSB is below. farther down is the one for the 07s.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject:Steering Column Shudder, Noise, Vibration While Making Right Hand Turns at 5-15 MPH (8-24 KM/H) (Pull Fuse) #06-02-35-008B - (09/08/2006)
Models: 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt
2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada Only)
2007 Pontiac G5
This bulletin is being revised to provide additional diagnostic information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-02-35-008A (Section 02 -- Steering).
Condition
Some customers may comment on a shudder, noise or vibration that is felt through the steering column while making right hand turns at 5-15 mph (8-24 km/h). This condition can be duplicated by the technician. Removal of the 60 amp fuse that powers the EPS may eliminate the condition.
Correction
DO NOT REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN.
Replacement of the steering column, P/N 10394224, is NOT recommended. Steering column replacement has been proven to be ineffective in several Technical Assistance cases.

Pull the 60 amp steering fuse (1) in the underhood fuse block. If this eliminates the shudder/vibration concern, contact Technical Assistance for further information in order to repair the vehicle. If this does not eliminate the shudder/vibration, continue to diagnose the vehicle according to the diagnostics in SI.
07 TSB for turning noise:

Models: 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment on a shudder, noise or vibration that is felt through the steering column while making right hand turns at half to full throttle. This condition could be caused by the rear transmission mount grounding out on the Rack & Pinion top hat.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If you suspect that your vehicle has this concern, then put the vehicle in the air and inspect the drivers side of the transmission mount. If you notice or see a witness mark on the transmission mount, then you will have the above concern. It's recommended that if you have this issue to please make the following repairs.
Loosen the front and rear trans mount thru bolts and shift/pry the transmission upward.
You will get enough movement to create enough distance and eliminate this concern.
After you have enough clearance, then tighten the thru bolts to 100 Nˇm (74 lb ft).
Important: Check for presence of excessive shake at idle after shifting mount, may have to re-adjust mounts.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
