this is a warning for the rest of the 2.0 owners
this morning on my way to work for some reason i had a urge to turn around so i did when i got home the tranny was locking up . so i jacked the car up and there was a big hole in the differential . now i carried the car to the dealer a couple of months ago for a knocking and they told my that the knocking i was the clutch in need of changing well i had the clutch changed the car was on the road by v day a few days the knocking started again but it kept going away now today there is a big hole in the diff so if any of u guys have a knocking when u accelerat or in between gears have the tranny checked

dont know yet monday i am going to the dealer but i stuck my hand in the hole and the inside i can feel the screws on the diff grind like somthing was beating around on the inside

 

i get a nock when im stopped it sounds like someones nocking on a door?????? is this how it started out?

it was not really noticeable at idle it was more noticeable while cruising but if i was u i would get it checked out

 

im planning on it it catches me off gaurd it sounds like the springs loosing but different

 

my tranny makes a similar noise but only with moderate and heavy accceleration or on turns. ( this is with a new transmission that was replaced at about 7000 miles and i have 12000 miles now) i brought it too the dealership and they said it's nothing. even after i drove with one of the mechanics, he told me it's because every tranny is slightly different and according to him that's a normal noise.

i'm thinking of maybe going to a different dealership because this car has been there on three seperate occasions for drivetrain problems.

 

i get a wierd knock type of niose on my 1-2 shifts and 2-3 shifts some times this usually only happens when i bring it close ot redline not under WOT. it scared me at 1st but then i just started dismissing it as backfire im still on the stock exhaust. now this has got me worried again. it started doing it about 2-3 months ago but its not every shift it will happen like 3-4 times a week

 

lol that is what i thought it was at first like when i start the balt the dealer even said it was the spring needing oil and as soon as the engine warms up it will stop so i dissmissed it for a awhile but now i wish i didnt

 

Usually thats from spinning one wheel a long time. It heats up the spider gears and they cut(wear) right through the diff pin.

 

dude i dont think tha is the issue i recieved a phone call this morning about a next balt with the same prob and a girl owned it for a month now bun out or spinnies and the car only had one driver they had to give her a new car and i am sorry to say she did not take a next balt

Thats pretty hard to understand... but as far as i know thats usually the issue. I have seen several getrags with holes in them.

 

I'm almost 100% POSITIVE you have NON-LSD, am I correct?

 

ya thats probably soemthing because i have the lsd package hopefully its just something else

 

ya know, i have got that same sound a few times... but happens so far apart i can't duplicate it when i need to.

 

I've been a dealer tech for Hyundai for 3 years and seen this a few times. If any of you have this Knocking or clunking in gear get it FIXED. The diff WILL explode!

 

pictures would be great if possible, and if you have a hole didnt you see diff. fluid on the ground where you parked? i have a wierd intermittant noise that when i take off slowly i hear 1 ping and when im coming to a stop i hear only 1 ping, but its intermittent.

 

now that the balt is at the dealer they r trying to find every excuse on giving me a new tranny after telling me that they put the car on a lift and looked under the car with a light and rotated the wheels and saw theets missing of the final drive gear and a hole where a bolt or a pin supposed be lol they wanna say i hit somthing on road while every one that looked at the tranny said that u can tell by looking at the hole that it was done by somthing on the inside

 

so are they trying to make you pay for the tranny or what?

 

The knocking on the door thing is UNRELATED to this, and it is 100% normal.
