weird exhaust problem

so i have a 3 inch exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and it has been great until recently.

whenever i first start driving for about 10 minutes the exhaust is real raspy when i get on it AT ALL. after that, it seems to be fine and it sounds great. any clues what is going on? it didnt do this before. think there is something wrong with the muffler? thanks for any help.

no it needs to warm up .. i mean yes you're in TX but the temps have dropped decently i'm guessing .. usually a cold exhaust will sound like ass no matter how good it sounds warm

well even when its warm out, it still does it. maybe it has to literally get HOT in order to sound good. until it does, it sounds like a dying calf! pure ass! haha!

I have the same problem with mine. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time, but until I have been driving for about 10 minutes it is horrible.

Exhaust leak! My friend has an ARK, and when all the bolts are tight, there is no rasp.

Just a thought: maybe initially the computer is in closed loop until the O2 sensors get hot enough so the computer can monitor the engine properly. (In closed loop the engine runs off pre-set parameters).

Not sure though.....

That has nothing to do with sound! :smacks forehead:

Exhaust rasp is generated by either an exhaust leak or not enough of a resonator.

Actually as I wrote that I expected someone to respond with a long drawn out theory on why that couldn't happen and how the 02 sensors work, closed loop theory, open loop theory, etc., etc.

I used to only have to hit the gas twice and the ricerocket exhaust sound stopped. It very well could be a leak or bad o2 because my exhaust is ALL fucked up now and sounds like **** and no horsepower.

What are you using for exhaust gaskets? I personally like to use exhaust gaskets from like vibrant or something similar and then add Ultra Copper to each side. This will climate all exhaust leaks. After the initial tighten, you'll probably have to re tighten a few more times to make sure it seats and stays tight.

What about the GM manifold reseal kit. I just bought that since im putting the extrude honed manifold and stock LSJ downpipe on my exhaust.

yes, it's warm out. but think about the normal running temps of an exhaust, and you'll see that even on a HOT day, the exhaust is "cold" when you start it.
