What could be wrong?

Alright, so I was driving this morning and I come to a stoplight. When it turned green I shift into first and then into second. While shifting into second it seemed normal at first but the clutch pedal stayed to the floor. Luckily I had enough speed going to coast into a parking lot from the street. I get out of the car and take a look at it and the clutch pedal will only move about an inch (maybe less). I pulled on the clutch and it did not budge above that point.

It did not stall the car at all. After i shut the car off i was able to turn the car back on.

Now the car is a 2005 and was just purchased on June 11, 2007 with 1000 miles on it (It has ~2300 on it now). I bought it from a dealership that my dad works at and I know he said they had to replace something on another Cobalt SS/SC they had on the lot awhile because it sat so long.

I'm just wondering what you guys think it could be. I've got some ideas from what I have researched but a search on the website didn't lead me to anything that sounded exactly like my problem.

Thanks for the help,

Joe

Nobody has any ideas about what is wrong? I was thinking clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder from what I have read. If not those than it is probably something worse...clutch?

Can anybody post what happened to their car when either of those things got messed up?

The dealer will be looking at it tomorrow...I'm just semi-freaking out....it sucks to have something break...I have only put a thousand miles on it.

Did you check the clutch pedal down under the dash to make sure nothing was hung up on it or something not looking right ?

Yeah i checked around and it had very little play moving up. My dad who has worked around cars over 20 years came and looked at it and said it needed to be towed to the dealership so I'm pretty sure it wasn't an easy fix. We couldn't really check under the car or get a good look because where we were at though.

Why do you own a Chevy when by your statement you think toyota's are a better car?

I've never had a problem with getting warranty work done. If his car has like under 3k miles, the dealership shouldn't even ask a question honestly, unless there are some blatent signs of abuse. With warranty work, if they have it for so long, they must provide a rental or loaner car anyways. Just because its an '05 doesn't mean it shouldn't have a problem. I'd be more concerned becuase its the first production year, so maybe his still has a few bugs in it.

When the warranty expires is a whole nother story which has no relation to this thread. Older Toyotas were dependable, not so much these days. They are stuggling to keep up with demand and have sacrificed in quality.

dude chevys are always having problems as much as i hate to admit it I had a problem with mine the 1st day I brought it home... and I did get all of my warranty work done, but its just another hassle having to take time off to get it fixed, and wait my family has 2 toyotas none have had ne problems... I dont neccessarily like toyota better I just think they are more dependable as well as honda why do u think they have such a good resale? and im sure a lot of people can back that.. I love my car and chevys but i give credit when credit is due, no toyotas would meet my need execpt for a supra..actually the only import thats got my eye right now is the nissan altima coupe that bitch is bad!

well since our cars have a hydraulic clutch actuator it could be the slave cylinder, the actuator itself getting stuck, or something with the pressure plate....all of which means you should take it to the dealer and let that warranty work for you!

That's why the camshafts on the new Tundras were breaking and causing engine failure

So I found out what the problem was. I'm pretty sure my dad said that the slave cylinder had pushed through the firewall. Has anyone heard of this happening? But they ordered the part so hopefully i am up and running in the next couple days.
