What the flap....?

Well Wed. when I was getting gas, I popped the gas cap off and went to myself "Self something doesnt look right here". Then I realized the metal flap was missing. I still have to contact my dealer and see what he says. But what is strange, my MPG was 35.2 and one day it just dropped to 33.7. Would loosing this piece have anything to do with MPG? I will update when I talk to my dealer.
Here are a couple pix, just in case.

If that flap is part of the seal for your gas cap, then it can definitely affect your mileage...that is weird, though. I guess I'd be more worried about having that thing floating around in your tank, if that's where it fell to.

Every car I have even seen had a metal flap that goes over that hole where you stick the gas pump in. And I could of swore that my cobalt had that up until Wed..... but who knows... getting old. lol.

Well the service guy said the 3 cobalts he has dont have them and the cobalt he checked at the service center didnt have one(used). I was wondering that maybe this is a problem, and maybe after a few months it falls off. I wanna check a new one and see....

Mine is an 07 and my mom bought an 06. Mine is an SS and hers is standard, neither one came with it from the factory. In fact the first time I filled up I thought they forgot something to, but when I got to work on monday (Chevy dealer) I checked EVERY single Cobalt in the lot.
NONE HAD IT! I checked the used 06's we had and they didn't either. Then I checked the Cobalts that Enterprise car rental has on our lots and no flap there either.

So I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they don't have it in our cars. I mean I checked about 30 cars on our lot and none had it. What are the odds that they all broke off?

Nope relax your car never had one. And untill I see one that does I'm gonna have to say no Cobalts ever did.

BTW my car is the 1st 07 SS sedan in MD, when I got it it was 3 days old. Built on 8/28 and I bought it on 9/1 and the car never had one in it since day 1. My car had 1.3 miles on it when I bought it, I backed it off the truck myself so I KNOW for a 100% fact noone efed with it before I bought it.
