whats wrong with my car???
My car has been making a knocking sound(from the engine) i took it in to a mechanic and he said he only found a half quart of oil left and its probably the rods. I can still drive my car but every time i accelerate the knocking get harder the more i push the gas. I havent driven my car since but i'm wonerding if this is definitely the rods and how much this will cost to fix. My car is a 2006 LS with 33,340 on it.
its 5 year 60k or if in canada like me 5yr 160K
sounds like top end for sure and to fic that is ***** now i just rebuilt a top end for my brothers ecotec and it coseted lil under 2000.00 after i put my labour into it

regardless, it should probably be covered under warranty, even though there is no excuse for running that low on oil.
ya they will ask fo rall that if u never take it to a dealer like for me i have a floder with recipts of work done to mine parts and so on cause u never know what miht happen
Rods are done. probly cylinders are fcuked too. unless you have some extensive mods, you have a powertrain warranty claim. I dont keep receipts from all of the oil I buy, only a log of when i changed it (mileage and date). Any mechanic worth their salt will be able to tell if the oil has been changed on an reasonable basis by the cleanliness of the inside head, oil pan, etc.
I wanna know where all that oil went? were your rings shot? head gasket leaking?

You did put in MORE oil before you drove it?
If not, your looking at damn near a brand new engine.
The fastest way to completly **** up an engine is to drive it without oil.
If you put more oil in and its still knocking,
check the oil level again maybe it leaked out again?
or the damage was already done. In that case
your probably looking at an overhaul.
If hes been drivin it without oil, I dont think the warranty would
be in effect. Might be considered abuse or something. Maybe they
can fix WHY he didn't have oil, if it was a leak or something. Did he
do the oil change? or GM? Did Jiffylube do it and leave the drain plug loose?
Not fill it up enough?

i initially asked the question to see if he still had one. and it could be warrantied if its something that happened maybe due to a faulty part in the motor and whatnot. would they admit it if there was? probably not. theres many factors we dont seem to know.
There is another problem,
Maybe you COULD get them to replace,
since that light is suposed to come on BEFORE engine damage occurs.
If the light failed to come on, aperently when it should have, and as a
result of the light failing to come on, you have massive engine damage.
It should be on them, for the light not doing its job and warning you
of insufficenet lubrication.
I Remember when my 85 plymouth oil light came on,
I turned the engine off IMEDANTLY. Saved the engine
from damage, Only damage done was the broken oil
pump chain and some of the chain guides.
