Why do the doors open so wide??

Yesterday, my family went out to eat and they wanted me to drive my car. Well anyways I opened the door a bit and the wind caught it and it went flying into this dodge minivan that I parked beside. My door hit their door handle. It took the paint off of their door handle and bent in the edge of my door a little but did damage the paint. Its not just real bad but it still bothers the hell out of me...havent even had it a month!

Why to ufck do the doors open so wide????

You shouldn't squeeze into tiny parking spaces or let other people drive your car, for that matter. And don't pin this the wind or the size of the doors. Part of having a new car is adapting to stuff.

I'm still getting use the HUGE turning radius...

W3rd. they are huge, nothing like someone getting in the passanger side, buckling up, then having to unbuckle to reach the door. so funny.

But like he said. it is just something to get used to. it's probbly because it is a coupe and people need to get in the back

I was driving and i was way far away from the van. The ******* doors open at nearly a 90 degree angle. If you dont know the facts then can it.

LOL i left a note under their windshield wiper saying that I doored them and i left my cell phone number for them to call me. They left me a note that said "Don't worry about it, its a lemon. Thanks for being honest and admitting to it though!"

Yeah... the doors do go waaaaay out there.... but that's just a coupe thing... big heavy doors... on the turning radius... blows... and don't even try to parallel park this bitch... that power steering dosen't work at all when you're stopped.

I don't know what you guys are talking about... although coming from a pickup truck, the turning radius isn't bad.

As for the power steering? You guys are just weaklings :-P

Just put on some door edge guards, thats what I did. Saves your doors and your neighbors.

I used to have a 97 Camaro. Those things have what must be the worlds longest and heaviest doors... pain in the ass. The Cobalt is much easier to live with.

turning radius-------I hate it! I drive a full size van for work that can do better u turns than the SS..... but I love the SS S/c so much, it is well worth it.

doors--------- I was at a friends house a few weeks ago, he owns a custom shop so he sees a lot of cars..... we go to take my car somewhere, and he opens the door and is "like WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!!! The doors dont even look like they belong to the car when opend all the way"

try the doors on a 79 z28. those things were heavy too. and you had to SLAM them to get them to latch all the way.

One thing good I can say about the cobalts doors is that they shut very easily. You just have to give it a little nudge and there ya go. Cant say the same for our 05 yukon or the trailblazer i used to have. You have to give them a good shove.

Tell me about it. My ZR2 had the turning radius of a battleship compared to the Cobalt. And the power-steering thing- let's just say that turning the Z's wheel when stopped was a workout.

I personally like the bigger doors, yes the do open wide and are heavy but i like that fact that it feels like a solid car, ya know what i mean?. Now adays everything on a car is so flimsy. I open the door to my buddy's MP5 and it feel like im gonna break it.

doors

And long heavy doors mean worn out hinges over time. Keep em lubed or they will wear out and then the door will be a pain to shut. They are still using these crap hinges on doors. My LS turns pretty sharp IMO, same as the Lancer I traded for it. You aren't suppose to turn your wheels when stopped anyway. Try driving a 70 chevelle with no power steering and 50 series tires on the front and you will learn to turn while moving.
