WIERD Clutch Problem- It may be easily fixed?!?

I had my stage 2 installed about 3 days ago.......ive been driving the car to work for the past 3 days and thats all i drive it during the day. On my way to work i take I95 for 5 mins and i get on the car a little bit here and there. ( i have a spec stage 2 clutch and findanza flywheel) Anyway as i get home on day 3 the car smells a little wierd as if the clutch was buring but i need no real hard driving home. The next moring i throw it in N and start the car and IT WONT GO INTO gear at all. So i turn the car off and put it in first and restart it.....HOLY **** the f-er starts to throw me forward as if i dumped the clutch. After i changed my underwear i put the car in 2nd and start it. Nothing happens it start right up. So while the cars on a bite my lip and put it in 1st nothing happens so I pull away......the car shifts fine but now the pedal seems softer, the car shifts in to gears really scary easy and THE POWER IS JUST NOT THERE ANYMORE. I CLUELESS

It hits every gear w/o grinding or jumping rpms but it does not feel like a stage 2 anymore. The boost gauge still read that it gos above 15 psi but like i said the power is not there anymore.

Here and there when i race the car the clutch will slip its dick off and the rpms will keep jumping until i let it cool off. But does anybody have any input i would really appreciate it. The spec clutch has no more than 2000 miles on it and i might of raced 2-3 times.

Thanks Guys!

Sounds like you got a weak pressure plate and the clutch is slipping. Sometimes a clutch will slip just a little while you are on the gas and not let go (the tell tale sign that your clutch is gone... revs up qucikly and no go). This will lead up to a bad clutch. There was this one guy on here that said with a stage two and stock clutch he was barely pulling on a stock car. The clutch was slipping just a little. When he got a new clutch he raced again and said there was a huge difference. This sounds like what you are going thru.

I have a spec stage 2 its not stock. The first 3 days the car was amazingly faster. Until my problem the car feels as if it had lost power.

Anybody else have any input>? The car has lost power but the shifting is fine.....no slipping it just isin't quick as it was. Does that mean the clutch went? Is there any shops around me??? Im in Palmyra NJ Now about 25 mins from BOB MAGUIRE CHEVY. I need to take it to someone who knows what their talking about. Thanks

2007 ss sc here too. You dont have to take off in 2nd gear. Put it in 2nd gear, then try 1 again, it should go in smoothly. WHY is it like that? I have no idea, but thats the fix for that little issue.

As for having to man up to put it in 2nd, thats a bad idea. Any time the shifter refuses to go into a gear, you should never force it. Maybe you should experiment with different technique.

In my sunfire, the ownership says the tranny was designed like that where you have to put it into 2nd and then first. This is especially hindered if you have a short throw. But I dont think that your problem. Was the clutch broken in properly when you got it. Im assuming you drove for 2000 miles without problems, so it was fine before this happened. But did you drive it really hard within those 2000 miles. If so, you did not break your clutch properly. I remember once, I rebuilt a motor and didnt break it in properly...started burning oil like a bitch!

No i dont think i broke it in properly..........it sorta feels like its in a groove now BUT NOT A GOOD ONE! So your saying after the stage 2 it could of just took a ****? I had no problems really.......ocassionally it would slip here and there pretty bad but i thought it might be a cpu issue b/c it would just go away.

I live in NJ i dont know any shops or what not that deal with cobalts so im taking it to BOB Maguire GM tuesday.

O well I am going to the dealer cause the pinging got worse and I am seeing 10lbs of boost at wot at 3k in third And I am guessing If i stomp it to 6k i would see 19-20 lbs not sure why. and my dyno sucked ass I dyno 171 HP 163TQ to the wheels. O well

i bounced it off the rev limiter for about 3 secs in a rage trying to catch someone who throw a open bottle of soda at my car. I need to know if its the clutch or tranny. Some people are saying it syncros.....is that in the tranny and how hard is that to be replaced? also is it expensive, time consuming or both?

Theres pretty much no way i can find out without putting a decent chunk of money out for someone to figure it out let alone do the repair. So im kinda hoping its my clutch.

I gave people the synthomes (my spelling blows) but no one can diagnose the problem.

All info is greatly appreciated!

if its the synchros it should grind as you go to put it in gear, not what you say happened.

My 06 Pursuit does the same thing, it won't shift into first unless I shift into second and then go into first, your first gear synchros just aren't speeding your transmission up enough to get into first gear. I've had this problem at one point or another in all of the manuals I've ever driven, just I've noticed my Pursuit does it a lot more often. One trick if you want to avoid that is just before you come to a stop, clutch in and pull it out of gear, let the clutch out into neutral and clutch back in and put a little pressure on it into 1st gear and just before you stop fully it'll slide in itself, then with the clutch still in put it into neutral. Works for me.
