Will it blow up?!?
Will it blow up?!?
Hey guys new to the forum but have got a lot of useful info from here. I just bought a 05 cobalt ss/sc with a blown up engine. Full story is the guy I bought it from bought the car running, blew up "rings" (later found out 3 out of 4 postons broke) and then he put a rebuilt motor in it. 350miles later it blew up too. And then i bought it with the second blown up engine in it. I tore down the engine found all four pistons blown up. The car has a 2.8" super charger pulley, Siemens #60 injectors, snow performance water/meth kit (wasn't hooked up when I bought it and resiviour was empty), stainless braided heat exchange hoses. I don't know if the he exchange is OE or aftermarket. Now I have a few questions.. 1. If the water/meth set up was ran empty and never filled back up would the water/meth be enough to cool air enough to keep stuff from blowing up? 2. Is there going to have to be a bigger fuel pump to supply those injector? 3. Is there any way to tell if the PCM has been flashed? 4. Is any of this too big for stock internals?
Thanks for all your help, Kenny

lol im gonna just make a guess here, but im thinking he may have a meth tune running on that car, and without spraying meth while running the tune, motor goes boom. I would get a gm tune put in there or something before u even run that thing again after u fix it. then get it tuned for the mods. - the meth if u don't want to run meth.

1. If the water/meth set up was ran empty and never filled back up would the water/meth be enough to cool air enough to keep stuff from blowing up?
That Meth setup was probably being used to cool the combustion chambers down a bit and raise the timing for more power, if the car was tuned for Meth and the timing tables raised up for more than the regular gasoline can handle, there will be big problems causing the engine to go kaboom
2. Is there going to have to be a bigger fuel pump to supply those injector?
No need, stock should be fine, yet again, the engine could be starving for fuel which would cause the motor keep blowing up.
3. Is there any way to tell if the PCM has been flashed?
This is the most important thing to check first, it can make or a break a car, you will need to have pcm hooked up to a tuner, find somebody local with HPTuners and have them pull the file for you and then you will know where you stand, this is the first main thing that you want to check!!!
4. Is any of this too big for stock internals?
Nope, the LSJ engines can handle much more when built/tuned properly.

My suggestion to you is to visit the LSJ Motor section on the site, it has a lot of great info and will answer about 99% of the questions that you might have
