Wiper Problem
Wiper Problem
My wipers stopped working recently...I can turn them on but nothing happens I just hear a whirring noise almost like the arms are disconnected from the motor. I had the dealer check it out and they said it was the wiper clutch transmission or something like that, assuming its a chip or something that has to do with the different speeds/delays and what not. Although Im not sure if I believe that they even looked at it, that part is 465$ from the dealer...does anyone know what part this is or if that even sounds like that is wrong.. if anyone has a gm parts book or w/e and cant find the exact name and number for me so I can get one from a cheaper autoparts store it would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. i attempted to take my wiper arms off so I could get the plastic panel off and make sure the motor was ok before concluding it was an electronic problem and I took off the bolts on the wipers that hold them on and they still won't budge..I only messed with it for a couple minutes and Im assuming there is a locking ring or something on the bolt, but if anyone can explain this to me also it would be appreciated. I don't want to break anything.

The nut holds them down, but they are also a press fit on the shaft, so you should use a puller of some sort on them.
Wipers are controlled by the BCM so you have 4 possible problems. Wiper Motor, BCM, Switch ,Wiring. You can rule out most of the system pretty easy. Go to the wiper motor, pull the connector and with the switch in the low position check for power on the Dark Green wire. Then change the switch to High and check for power on the Purple wire.
Since you hear the motor running, its probably safe to assume that wiring/switch/BCM is good. And at $465 Im guessing the dealership is putting the same bet on it and telling you to replace the wiper motor.
EDIT: Alldata lists the wiper motor price at $125~ but wiether or not you can trust that.... hahaha

There is two wiper relays under the hood in the fuse box labled wpr 1 and wpr 2 also the fuse is labled wpr fuse15 its 10 amps.
But if you are hearing the motor making noise than its probably the motor.
Check the ground conection as well ,Continuity between motor casing and the frame.
How about warranty its only a 06
Wiper transmission motor all one unit. But I would replace or try to fix it myself.
You can get a puller cheap at a auto supply .They make one just for removing the arms.

Update.... I fixed it myself..for free.
I was just the nut that connects the arms to the motor...
So its pretty obvious now that the dealer didn't even look at it, they obviously just looked up the most expensive wiper part they could find and said that was the problem, I knew the second I got the wpiers off and pulled the panel off that that was the problem, and Im no mechanic. Im glad it's fixed but im also pretty pissed about the dealers laziness/greediness whatever it may be.
