after running for about 5 minutes, the engine shut down...when i try to start it nothing happens, and i see a padlock between the gauges

blown fuse ?

 

While i have not seen the padlock between the gauges, to me it sounds like a theft deterrent issue. Factory alarm on the fritz or something?

 

Try your other key to see if you have the same problem.
I dont think you can do anything with it if its the security with out a tech 2

Probably have to tow it,phone the dealer first they will probably spring for the tow!

This theft detterent flakes out sometime from disconnecting the battery as well.

 

disconnecting the battery did it...its ok now
