Exclamation Wtf Is With My Downpipe?!?! Please Look Now

FIRST OFF, well when they put in the new transmission, whenever i go over a bump or engage the gear it sounds like its clunking about in the engine bay. like something isnt bolted down or something. im lost as to what that could really be. so when i take my car in again im gonna ask them to look at that. it never did this before my new transmission and once they put it in, its been doing that.

another thing.

WHAT THE HECK IS WITH THIS DOWNPIPE?!?!?!?! HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER SEEN THIS BEFORE

NOTICE THE WIRES SNIPPED AND THE SENSOR IS BEFORE THE CAT??

any rhyme or reason why this is??

different year cobalts are all a little different, especially the downpipe. some have 1 cat, some have 2, some have 2 o2 sensors, some have 3, some have the 02 sensor on the manifold, some not on the manifold but instead on the downpipe. i've run into a few problems working on people's cars because of this.

my guess is that whoever put this thing on got one from a different year, so the 02 sensors were in the wrong spot. instead of leaving an empty hole, they plugged it with a broken 02 sensor.

or, it had a wideband.

why would a dealer snag a used downpipe when they told me they ordered a new one because my old one got clogged?

ya i can understand the exhaust manifold, some had SAI (secondary air injection) thats something im aware of.

but the thing that i DONT get is WHY its there, because ive never seen this. my buddys got an 05 cobalt, i have an 06, my buddys got an 07 g5, anothers got an 06 cobalt.

unless this is some 08 bs crap. idk why this is.

this is true

but why would someone do that to a LS/LT base model 2.2 downpipe. the pipe itself is VERY restrictive and small. its understandable on a LSJ but not for a L61 you know??

because maybe they lied? i would be surprised. did you pay for it? dealers do **** like that man.

a friends girlfriend was getting her oil changed, and they guy said she needed a new radiator hose clamp because it was broken and causing the fluid to leak out, so if she didn't get a new one she would ruin the car. he told her the CLAMP was $125. she was telling us this, me and laloosh looked at each other got her keys and went to look. it looked perfectly fine, was not leaking fluid, and not to mention a clamp like that is probably about a dollar at any local auto store.

w??
i told you why they changed the design several times for the different model years with no rhyme or reason. in my above post, i was talking about downpipes only, not manifolds. every year has different downpipes (some of them are the same, some are different) and the differences are independant of sai.

There's always been one on the exhaust manifold and one after the cat. His has three.

I think he only has TWO and is wondering why he has two...if he has three then that's odd...but I'm pretty sure he's wondering why he has one before his CAT...

you'll notice in his pic that the plug he's talking about is in the same location as mine...number 1...

One before for a wideband and one after for emissions.

on some cobalts, there's one on the stock manifold, one before the cat, and one after the cat. so there's 3. his car wasn't set up for 3, so they plugged the middle one.

The clunking you hear is probably from the down pipe hittting on the steering rack !
This because its the wrong down pipe and the angle could be off or its installed wrong.

I would raise hell in the morning and have them order the right one and dont pay any extra.
