WTF...Staged and now slipping?
I don't care what anybody says. I have pulled my tranny out 3 times and helped other with their clutchs. The stock clutch is known for problems. Some people get lucky. Came to the conclusion that these things come into play:
1.) Did you get one with a problem?
2.) Are you driving the car correctly?
3.) How much abuse do you put on it? (It can't take any abuse what so ever)
Mainly what I'm trying to say is any power greater the stock = good chance for clutch slip. The exedy is a great clutch but make sure you break it in correctly. If you want a fast cobalt, I'm talking 12- scond time slips be prepared to but alot of time and money into it. Once you do get the balt to hook up with slicks, a stage clutch, and power needed the tranny is next on the list to have problems. I really would like to see a tranny upgrade for strength.

I killed my stock clutch last week. The slowbalt is at the dealer right now getting a spec stage 2 clutch installed. I agree that the stock clutch is junk. Same thing with my Saturn redline ( traded in for my ss/sc ). I think I should be good with the spec, it's good for 340 ft. pound, Now I just have to suffer through the break in period

Hit the 10k rollover yesterday and i'm still able to spin/bark the 1-2 shift. I was really beating on it after I got my TD installed, I spun all of 1st gear out (shifted after i got traction of course), shifted to 2nd, and spun that entire gear out as well. Two black patches of rubber in front of my school.
Also tried powershifting today, zero slip there as well. But I do agree the clutch is very sensitive, and if you don't adapt to it you can kiss it goodbye. I'm also stock with just the airbox mod, so I'd like to see how it holds up after I go staged. But I have to say this clutch is a LOT stronger than people give credit for.

some people just drive their cars harder than others now maybe if you are at a stop and hit rev limit and then dump clutch in second expecting a burnout yea it will slip... but you should be able to nail the gas before fully extending the clutch and not have slip i mean come on its called power shifting / like the 08 cobalt "no lift shift" we should be able to do this its an ss come on it really means "super slip"
your flywhell and pressure plate has spotting on it from excessive heat. and your clutch it's self show's MAD wear. the factory clutch is an exedy unit. and is by no mean's weak. it jus takes the right driver. people have seen 30k miles with WAYYYY more power than what you got on an SC build and even dragged the **** out of it with no real issue's untill going turbo and breaking the 300 WHP mark. then after all that power and abuse it finally gave. after like 3 or 4k miles over the 300 WHP mark and about 26k just short of that 300 WHP mark. learn to drive please.
I think that you might be a minority opinion here. Very few people have not had a problem there ss/sc clutch. Most people have had a problem with them, so unless you are trying to say that the majority of the fourms don't know how to drive stick.... But besides that, look at the pic of the clutch disk, see right there across from the letters " GM "? It says LUK with a circle around it. I know these clutches very well because I used to sell them. We recently swithched to sacs clutch kits because to many people where complaining about the LUK kits. Oh, and I am having no trouble with my Spec stage 2 clutch.

quite a few people have said that "most" people have a problem in this thread......
not true. did a poll. about 90% of cobalt owners who voted. have no issues at all.
there are people out there with far more power than most of us, on stock clutches.
I myself routinely cut 2.1 60ft times, and WOT shift second on a sticky track with no slip.
as far as im concerned. about 2% of the cobalt community get unlucky with true clutch issues.
the other 5 or 10% having clutch problems just cant drive, and try to blame it on the part.

anom, you know me, as soon as i felt my clutch slip on my last run last year, i detuned, and drove normal for the next 6 weeks, and it felt fine when i parked it. i probably dont need to jam my exedy in there, but i have it, and its down til the snows gone. and why not change it when your doing the diff and axles anyway. right?
SOOO, im driving my car along and all of a sudden the SC starts slipping out of control. So after about 2days of this, i take it to the stealership where they tell me that my clutch is starting to slip and i need to have it replaced. Oh yea, the cost you ask??? $1800. I had to tell them to kiss my ass and give me my keys. Funny thing is, i have never felt any of this before i put on the GM stage 2. After i went and told GM this, they explained to me that it was nothing for them to do because the stealership is the eyes and ears for them and its nothing they can do for me. WTF. I have an 06 balt with the stage 2 kit. With about 27k miles....
The funniest part of the whole experience was that they took the drivetrain apart without consulting me, and then decided I had to pay for it. When I decided to take it somewhere else, they wanted me to pay for diagnosis and putting it back together again.

These cars aren't like any other 5 or 6 speed i've ever driven ( 20+ different cars) . It's a learning experience , if your stuck in an old shifting habit , kiss the clutch goodbye . If you want to blame GM for something , blame their gearing choices .
Thats true. I've never seen a first gear thats this stupid short.
