WTF ive never snapped one and i use a very hefty ingersol rand titanium 1/2" impact gun topped of with your friendly harbor freight tourqe wrench... and i go back and fourth from drag radials to street tires on a weekend basis... you guys are doing something wrong...

if your using a extension on the tourqe wrench or ratchet it is causing a "prying" action and is probably snapping em off from the sideways force not the tightening strength... just something to think about...

 

I believe they are swapping wheels too frequently but who knows. It could also be from wheel weight. No problems on my 17"'s knock on plastic.

 

not to anger anyone but i have to agree with dsp86, working at a dealer i have rarely seen studs being replaced. the only studs dammaged from impacts are from newbies, or people who over torqued them at home and we break them trying to take off their wheels.
and yes swapping rims every weekend will cause unnatural stress and thread wear on the studs. it also depends on how you are installing your new studs, if they are overtorqued on install they will be weaker, this brings me to a question.
how are you installing your studs?

 

ok well the dealer was the last place that torqued my lugs, when they replaced my struts and now i have 2 studs busted.... explain that for me....

again i have never busted a stud that i have put on my self, and i have never used an impact wrench or torqued it 100 ftlbs when i have done it, but the dealer does it twice and both times i ended up with 2 busted studs each time.... coincidence or not?

 

i torque my to 120 lbs and i have never broken one

 

I've rotated and balanced my tires about 6 or 7 times within the past year and never had one snap on me. I even did a rotate today. I've used a 100 lb-ft torque stick everytime with an impact.

Not to mention the countless other GM cars I've touched in the past 4 years in the field.
