how do you use the mitten? do you rinse it out with clean water regularly as you wash. If not, you could have trapped a small rock or debris in the mit and then dragged it across the paint. Another possibility could be that the cloth picked up something and did the same.

You could try something like Mothers scratch remover. how deep are the scratches and do you have pictures?

get some 3m rubbing compound and a clean microfiber towel. do not rub the compound in a circular motion! apply it in the direction of the panel. remove it with a different towel, and repeat if necessary. the directions are on the bottle. be sure to read them.

come to think of it i did accidently step on the drying cloth and left a little black spots i dont think that would cause the scratches entirely...

if the scratches went through the clear, then you need paint. go get an estimate.

if you can't see it when you don't have your face right up to your car or when it's dirty i think its okay... it's a car it's gunna get scratches.. =P try washing the area again with just water to make sure there wasn't any dry soap in there. and use some baby scratch remover.

A good wax job will get most of them out. (or at least until it wears off)
