i hope to god you cover all you non-water safe electrical components such as your alternator...

as for the question that started the thread, they sell engine cleaner at any auto parts store it works perfect- it's a degreaser- works like a charm!

Simple Green Auto Degreaser! Cover all electrical and intake components, soak the motor in the stuff and let it sit for a little bit but not dry. Then power wash it off.

I used simple green and power washed it after members made fun of my nasty ass engine bay. I did not cover anything but kept the spaying to a minimal. Looks like new

as a detailer... I use a pressure washer and do the engine bay around other 2 washes... and i use an air gun to blow out all the water from everywhere. i don't really cover stuff up unless everythings really dirty then yeah butnot usually. I also usually spray the under neath of the car also... and about once a month or so i take the wheels off and get the brake dust off them..

umm.... why would you have to cover anything in the engine bay? its designed for an engine bay so it can handle a little water.... just not designed for massive amounts

Very True! Had a bad experience with that on my first car.

Lets get one things straight... If your filtering your water you will not have anything to worry about. Pure water does not conduct electricity nor does it cause corrosion. So... power washing the car then just do a "spot free" rinse.

EDIT: Just be careful of greased componants, power washing them might end up something other than a shinny apperance.
