Question Car Wash Tips

Hey,
I just washed my car today, after a 1800 miles round trip road trip. Any tips on getting the splattered bug guts off my bumper?

Clay bar it. That's about it really. Some of that stuff may be too ground in to get off with a normal car wash. Other than that, a pressure washer would be a lot of help. Or just spend a lot of time scrubbing the front with a sponge.

A good coat of wax makes them come off easier in the future... Also rinsing the car before washing helps too...

if you have it waxed up go get some meguiars quick detailer and use that, just make sure you use a microfiber towel and have wax on the car - otherwise you will scratch the crap out of it. takes bugs off mine like they are nothing.

my car hasnt seen a hose and soap in months, i just quick detail, quick wax and then sometimes i put another coat of ultimate wax paint is mint and i get compliments all the time

i kind of went off on a tangent there but once you start using quick detailer you wont go back to washing, just dont use it if you have gone mudding in your cobalt or something.

Meguiar's Canada

thats my car

They sell this stuff at pep boys called 'bug and tar remover' its in a black spray bottle with green and purple lettering. I forget who makes it but it works like a charm.

Try wetting some paper towels and then sticking them on the car over the bugs. Should come right off after a few minutes. Bugs like to go on wet and come off wet. Learned that when trying to get my helmet visor clean.

I usually do hot water and scrub hard. Get the ones you missed with a wet towel.

Coat of wax HELPS GREATLY in the future

do NOT scrub hard, you will scratch the f*ck out of your paint, firm even pressure will do it. if thats not doing it then use some more "bug and tar remover" or whatever else youre using.

Clay bar man! Works great! If you throw down a good wax after it makes the bugs come off alot easier in the future. There are also a few bug/tar removers out there that work pretty good.

Challenger by 1st Ayde. Don't even have to scrub to get them off. You will need to wax it when your done though.

^^this. I also use a terry-cloth towel, wetted down with warm water and dish soap. Re-apply a few times for dried up bugs. DON'T SCRUB! Make sure to put a fresh coat of wax on afterwards as dish soap strips all the wax of your paint.
Also, don't leave bugs on the car for too long; many bugs contain acid that eats right through your clear coat if given time!

I just use some steel wool, just press as lightly as you can and it'll come off. Razor blade works great too.

EPIC FAIL!!!!

Steel wool (0000 steel wool) is for metal and should only be used with a lubricant. I wouldn't even use a paper towel to scrub a car's paint let alone steel wool.

NEVER EVER EVER use a razor blade on paint.

Sponge is too abrasive and you will have to do time-consumeing paint correction or wet sanding.

First try high-presure water. If that does not work soak the bugs with soap and water or a beg and tar remover or my favorite Adam's Detail Spray (it just smells the best) until they are soft. Spay off. Remove any left overs with a clay bar.

Nah it totally works! I use 60 grit sand paper to get out swirl marks too.

I use diluted degreaser like simple green let it sit for 3-5 mins, rinse, wash normally, and wax

I clean the car with high pressure cleaner. Then rinse. I dry the car with a lot of micro-fiber shower carefully and turn the shower regularly. This brings off staying dust. Then I apply wax the whole car and remove off. This keeps a safety buffer. No container needed. The wax makes it easy to clean the car the following weeks time. I do this weekly. I've done this throughout winter season with excellent results and little circulating. I'm amazed how well it works.

Poorboy's Bug Squash works wonders with no scrubbing necessary. Just spray and rinse.
