Cleaning products on engine bay.

What are some great products to use on the engine bay? I've used Simple Green, but it doesn't get a few of the filth marks out. What do some of you use?

Thanks!

If you keep it clean you don't have to worry about needing stronger then regular simple green.

You spray it all over & then take a brush to it, then hose it off?

The weather has been real shitty lately here on Long Island, so I never get a good chance to really detail it.

I have always been nervous about spraying down my engine bay.... just worried about getting water in places it shouldn't be. I have used a sponge and water before to wipe it down but other than that I have used nothing.

I drive in the rain and all, but this water is coming from the underside of the vehicle and a little through the grill. The difference between driving in the rain and spraying water directly on the motor and in particular the wiring is much different IMO. Water will go more places when spraying directly (and where water was not designed to go) than if you were driving in the rain.

That is my reasoning for not spraying the motor. Don't get me wrong, I would love to hose it down and wipe it dry but I can just see problems happening with that. I'm sure others have done this (as seen in this thread), but I'm just not comfortable with it.

Hit a good puddle and you just sent water splashing up to the underside of the hood. Cars these days are designed to be more water proof then cars of the past. Disconnect any plug under the hood and you'll find it has a silicon rubber seal to make the connection water tight. While I do understand you hesitance cars these days are damn near 100% water proof under the hood.

Back in July of 2007, my car was in a bad rain storm & my air filter was flooded. Had to get a new one & I got my oil changed to make sure nothing else would happen.

lol i drive in the rain... but i believe its a little different. why driving in the rain you have the hood, fenders, splash guards all kinds of things to keep youy engine from getting wet. Also im sure after hitting "One good puddle" the entire engine bay is not going to be soaked. I know nothing so i could be wrong.

YEAH! I never said to use 1500psi high presure water! Lemme know if you do it how it works out for ya.

Also it helps if the engine is still warm when you do it.

Run thru one at about 30mph and pull over and take a look. You'll be surprised! Ever wonder how the engine gets those water spots and marks all over it?

I'll be washing it this thursday so I'll give her a shot (that 1500 psi should clean the interior too right?! lol)

The warm engine I can see helping. It would dry a little quicker for sure.
