i always use purple power from autozone that stuff is way better than simple green(personal opinion). i just go to the car wash and spray it all over the engine and let it sit for about 2 minutes. then use the pressure washer without pulling the trigger. i like the car wash gun because its a little more concentrated on the specific area your cleaning and it puts less water on the engine than a running water hose. then i automatically start my car up and watch it dry to a nice shinny engine bay. i do this about once a month and never had problems.

its amazing is all i can say. i bought a 98 monte carlo for 200 bucks that was so dirty exterior wise and the engine was solid black. soaked the engine in that **** and the body of the car for about 5 minutes then blasted it at the car wash and it looked brand new. cleaned the interior spent 200 bucks on a new battery and a complete tune up and sold it for 3500. guy said it was the cleaniest 98 monte he ever seen i showed him the pic from when i first got it and he was still happy to pay 3500 for it i swear by this stuff.

warm your engine up for a few minutes, don't do this on a hot engine.

castrol superclean cleaner/degreaser: put in a pump sprayer, using MIST soak everything down

use a water hose attachment with a MIST setting to rinse it off.... not enough pressure to force water where it shouldn't be.

wipe off the water from any dressy pieces under the hood (cuts down on water spots) then let your engine run a few minutes to dry itself off.
