I hate swirls.
I hate swirls.
Well I was outside last night trying to figure out how in the hell to remove the headlight so I can replace the bulb.
Under the streetlight I noticed my hood is FUCKED. Swirl city man, big nasty swirls. Only thing I can think is that when I got pine pitch on my car and used a towel and some cleaner to remove it the towel must have absolutely raped my hood.
All I can hope is that some of them get off. And theres swirls on the side of my car too! Like wtf am I doing wrong here. I use a normal soft car sponge and microfiber towels to dry it and yet I still see swirls everywhere. Maybe because I haven't detailed and waxed it since July?
Gonna try and make time this weekend to just suck it up and detail / wax the beast one last time before winter hits. If those swirls don't come out I am going to be pissed cause it looks terrible.

Yeah I was thinking of investing in a polisher and see if that helps. I have gone to some sites that are pretty comprehensive on the subject of detailing and what not.
Seems like according to them you can get swirls out, it is scratches that are a bitch to do. Honestly I just saw the hood and was like
. Now I am not sure if it is even worth it to detail the car with winter and snow coming. That and it is kinda cold to be applying wax. Least I can do is bust out the claybar and detailing spray though.

Thats the bad part about halogen lamps. This is part of the reason we use 500+ watt lamps when detailing. It shows a lot more than natural sunlight will. I like to call them insanity lights, lol.
I would also recommend doing a detail now before winter. This is a good time to get a fresh coat of a sealant or durable carnauba on the car to protect it from the harsh elements. I typically suggest a big detail 2x a year, before summer and winter, then maintenance details in between those. My personal routine for my daily driver is wash/clay/wash/polish/optiseal/collinite 845. This is for winter on my white s10 of course. It varies slighty during the spring and summer
Now, as for removing your swirls. You can try working some poorboys ssr2 by hand. That will remove the defects, not cover them or fill them. That is the strongest I would use by hand. It will get rid of some swirls, but your arm might fall off after doing the whole car, lol. You can also use a one-step product like poli-seal, polish with sealant or polish w/ carnauba.
A random orbital buffer(UDM) is definitely going to help significantly more and it will eliminate a large majority of your swirls and scratches. Plus, it will get the job done in well more than half the time. How much of the swirls/scratches removed will depend on your pad/product combination though. I can get you set up with an ultimate detailing machine and products if you'd like and have package deals already setup or can do custom ones. I have no problem walking you through the process if you'd like Its well worth it! You'll love the results.

Well I didn't end up getting a detail done before it got way too cold to do it 
Now my balt is looking like a wreck. This spring though I am going to be investing in all the products I need to detail it and keep it clean etc. Gonna try and get good at this detailing stuff so I can keep my car looking good.
