messed up the clearcoat?
messed up the clearcoat?
I got what looks like water marks all over my car, been there for a month or so. Went to the carwash today and after I got home, noticed they are still there. Friend of mine thinks i ruined the clearcoat after using the ICE polish(turtlewax). Is he right or does anybody have any suggestions? thanks in advance
dont use any old soap, most soaps are way to harsh.
use proper car wash soap from a reputable manufacturer.
What I do is i have a microfiber wash mitt.
I take that to the wand wash, rinse down, turn on the brush soap, but i dont use the brush.
just let it dribble suds all over your car, then use your microfiber mitt to scrub her down.
then use the wax setting to get the suds off, rinse with clean water, and use the spot free rinse.

Your clearcoat may have been etched by hard water. I had hard water spots on my GTP and nothing I did would get them off. I tried buffing it and claying it and it didnt do a thing. My only option was to get it wet sanded but I sold if before doing so. I hope this isnt the case for you though. Good luck.
Its most likely hard water stains which can be pretty tough to remove sometimes. Here is how you want to tackle this.
First, try washing w/ either straight vinegar, or mixed with water. If you have one, use a genuine sheepskin wash mitt. It reduces the chances of marring
You'll have to rewash after the vinegar wash as well, dont forget. Reassess the situation. If they're gone, great! If not, its time to break out some polish b/c they have likely etched into the clear a little bit.
Heres a couple options with regard to product. Theres more choices if you prefer, these are just 2 examples. If you feel as though they're pretty bad, I'd suggest going w/ ssr2 by hand. Its about the most aggressive product I'd recommend using by hand. You can follow that up w/ ssr1 if you'd like. Similarly, if you feel as though the water marks arent that bad, you can start right w/ ssr1.
Another great option when working by hand is clearkotes vanilla moose, followed by their red moose glaze, then finishing w/ a carnauba wax.
Carnauba moose wax is a very good carnauba that offers great protection. If you prefer something w/ more protection or more looks, I can recommend something else for you such as a collinite wax or a poorboys wax just for reference
