Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

I heard from a friend that you can use a magic eraser to take the bugs off of cars and it works great, just wondering if anyone has tried that and if it would mess up the clearcoat any?

The best thing I've found for getting bugs off the car is a dryer sheet (the ones you put in the dryer with your clothes). Get it moist, not really wet, and you can wipe the bugs right off. No scrubbing, no damage to the paint. A lot easier and cheaper than bug & tar remover.

Haven't tried the magic eraser on a car, but it works pretty well for getting dirty handprints off of walls. I haven't seen any paint on them after I'm done, so I don't imagine it would mess up the clearcoat.

the only thing that i found the magic eraser good for is the inside of my car. Anytime you have marks or dirt that wont come off the magic eraser will take it off. Its like magic.

the magic erasers are great for rims too. They actually have a special auto version too, but I don't think its any different from the regular one

yeah whatever you do... DO NOT use a regular Magic Eraser on the body of your car... it'll F*CK your paint up... my buddy tried it, and he now has spots where the clear came off and even the shop couldn't fix... works awesome on the rims though

i would not reccomend it for use on the rims either...they are painted with clearcoat....so it will ruin them eventually also

That's correct. The clearcoat on rims is the same stuff that's on the body. The magic eraser is an abrasive foam block that will easily scratch smooth surfaces. It works great on plastic, glass and non-finished metal surfaces only because they won't scratch easily. You're best bet on wheels is a soft-bristle brush with standard car-wash soap or all-wheel cleaner. DO NOT use metal polish on modern wheels! If you really want to protect them and make them shine, wax them because they are clearcoated.

They work very well for removing bugs and stuff and even tiny tiny scratches...however, be careful not to rub too hard. About 5 yrs ago I used one of those on my mom's car and it pretty much buffed the clearcoat off in some spots......needless to say she was a bit upset...lesson learned.

How about using the magic eraser on the valve cover and spark plug cover?

It works wonders on the poress (sp) plastic inside some of our cars that nothing can ever clean. But I would not use it on my clear coat honestly.
