Waxing questions!
My car is 4 months old and, since it's winter time in PA, I have only been washing it. I am getting ready for spring and wondered what I should do the first time I shine up my baby? This is my first new car (owned two trucks that never got waxed) so I wasn't sure how long I should wait befor waxing! Also, I got the simoniz coating from the dealer (it was free) and wasn't sure if this should make a difference in when or how often I wax. Any sugestions in what products to use, for waxing as well as washing, would also be greatly appreciatted! Thanks in advance!

Haha yeah ^^^ I try to wax mine once every 3-4 months. I only wax mine ever 6-8, but I try to every 3-4. You know it could use a wax when water/rain doesn't bead up really nicely anymore. That's how I judge.

The only reason I got it is cause my car was the dealers "display car" for the stuff. They had the stuff on half the car so I got it for free!! It looked cool but I wasn't sure if I needed to take care of it differently?

i think it's just a type of wax, it will have surely be worn off by spring, just wash it real good and then wax is with mothers or turtle wax, you might want to try AstroShield the first time to help remove any left over wax from the dealer, but then switch over to something else.

You can go ahead and wax at this point. No need to wait
For a spring detail, you might want to think about polishing and possibly claying. Its a good way to start off a full detail and prep it for a summer of waxing
At minimum, as you mentioned, you'll want to wash and wax. Couple of personal favorites are listed below.
This is a great package that includes everything to safely wash.

Then just add in a wax to that kit and you have everything you'll need for a quality wash n wax

....and, NO - You have NO say in the matter...cuz if you dont clay your car before you polish it - I WILL CUT YOUR HEAD OFF!!
*Sorry - i am a bit **** when it comes to detailing* but basically, you always clay before you polish - cant stress it enough. If you dont, you run the risk of micromarring the paint surface with grit that washing alone does not clean off.

I would even go further to say that if you are even thinking of polishing your car - you WILL clay it first - and you WILL do it EVERYTIME before you polish your car.

You should take the advice to go check out autopia.org - they have a really good "how-to" section that will give you a really good handle on what to do. You will save lots of money doing things yourself - it just takes a little bit of cash to get proper supplies and time - so you can reaserch and practice. Once you get the hang of it, you will be fine.
