Tranny mount UPGRADE

Well last weekend I ordered a tranny mount from RSM racing for my SS. I called today

because I hadn't heard anything and got some great news. They are now reintroducing their

billet aluminum mounts and I'll be the first to get one . I expect this part to greatly

reduce wheel hop and I may get some vibrations but it shouldn't be too bad. This might be a

great alternative to the goofyguy/weapon R selection we have now, plus it will look

nice. it was $250 and I believe there is a core refund if you'd like to send your stock back into

them but with the new mount I’m not sure if it true or not. I get it Friday and will have it

installed Saturday. They make these for the three tranny types so theres some for all.

Here is the site RSM Go to catalog and look under ion. They have 3 different types of mounts depending on if ou have a SS S/C manual, 2.2

Manual, or the automatic. When you send in you order they will contact you to find out what kind you need. The pic they have on their page is an old style, I will put some pics of the new

style when i get it. Its the first of the two that you have. i used to be 220 but i think with the new part is 250.

So i was impatient and i installed it tonight. First off and most importantly the wheel hop is

virtually eliminated except for a tiny bit if you're going all out from first to second. Now this

might not be for someone who doesn't like vibrations. At idle the virbrations are at the worst

and when first reving up. There is more road noise and exhuast noise but just turn the music

up. Here are some pics, the install was a breeze, i would compare it to the strut tower brace,

which i did this morning. Pics VVV

As long as you aren't worried about vibrations then it is a good upgrade

Its under the car this shows you where it is.

I did use a jack to hold it up to be safe, i wasn't sure if i needed it or not but i would rather no need it then not use it and damage something

There is definitely more vibrations when at low RPMs and when starting off. Then at higher RPM there is an exhaust resonance if the windows are up. I don't know if i am going to keep it on all the time or only when I go for a race. It takes about 30 min to swap it out. With it on the response is definitely quicker; don't really have very much bog down like I did, so it does its job.

Just a front, if you had both you might as well weld the engine to the frame

I got a couple of quick questions for you.

How would you compare this against an engine tourqe brace?

And do you still get wheel hop with it on? You don't specifically mention that so I wasn't sure.

Did you keep it on?

Thanks
Rich

I just did this same thing yesterday but, i did not pay 130 dollars or what ever the cost was. i paid 22.50. i did not want all the vibrations from solid mount like what you are getting so i took my mount out cut all the rubber out and use 80 shore poly urethane and filled it back up. i get a little vibration at idle but hey you have to take the good with the bad. this is by far the best mod that is available! i also have the goofy guy brace as well and with these two on i have not wheel hop.

damn you got to love the forums!!!!!

The nice thing about this piece is instead of trying to support the engine from somewhere that isn't designed to support, the solid mount is supporting it where it is designed to. I was considering the torque braces but after looking at where it mounts i wasn't satisfied. I recently had a ride in a ss s/c that was stock and i had forgotten about the loud hammer sound it makes when shifting into second hard. Mine does that no more.

I did get some wheel hop the other night, i was showing off and lighting up the tires through first for a good 10 secs and finally right at the end i got a little wheel hop but not bad. I had raced a few times and no wheel hop was experienced. So i think unless its your showing off you won't get wheel hop.

I am keeping it on. It really isn't that bad. I have a truck with a V-8 in it tat is pretty loud and has a little vibration so it doesn't bother me. If i had to drive family around or someone like that i might not keep it in, but that would be the only reason.
