Good Comparison? (cars of sligt diff group)
i was thinking, out of all the car groups, do you think the following would beat, or retreat from OUR SS: tell me what you think they rank up 2, regardless of um, car group.
COBALT SS> SRT-4
TC
06 ECLIPSE GT
CHARGER 06
RSX
CELICA
AND... MUSSTAANGG!
think those are better than the cobalt? or could the balt keep up? WAT-U-THINK?

Interesting Comparo.
This is how I would rank them:
Cobalt SS S/C would destroy:
Scion tC
Acura RSX
Ford Mustang V6
Toyota Celica
Cobalt SS S/C is equal to:
Dodge SRT-4
06 Mitsu Eclipse V6
Dodge Charger Hemi
Acura RSX-S
Cobalt SS S/C would get owned by:
Ford Mustang GT

the dodge charger will also destroy the cobalt SS. it has 340hp and the srt8 has 425hp.
the dodge srt-4 would win against the cobalt SS. it has 230hp and 250lbs of tq.
i'm not hating on the cobalt, i'm just being realistic here.
i feel ya on being realistic. i was wondering because some of the ppl in my area own some of those cars, and if i had a ss, i would want to be able to see them go '...wwa were'd he go? dang, i just saw him at da light, !!" lol
now that i think about it, DC52NV makes it seem like the cobalt is back to it's cavi status, because what car really, that is around cobalts cost, can keep up with the list? <also not hatin, just sayin...>

If you can deliver the same 1/4 times in a 2.0L displacement form w/low FI then a 5.7L naturally asperiated should deliver much better results IMO.
As for the Mustang, never raced a new one yet. I can beat GT's that are 98 below but 99+ are harder...

Acura RSX Type S
Toyota Celica GTS
Subaru WRX
Saturn Redline
Scion tC (supercharged)
i'm sure there are more cars out there but that's all i can think of at the moment.

but, it would beat a 1974 Pontiac GTO 350ci which ran the 1/4 in 16.5
Theres more to it than just hp and tq, stop paper racing
In years to come, Chevy will probably boost up the hp in the Cobalt as we demand more from the factory, just like the Eclipse with it's new (pretty damn powerful) engine.
the new eclipse will not beat the ss more like neck and neck! the freaking eclipse is a 4000 lb boat yea i am dead serious
i test drove one for the hell of it the redline seems to pull better then it after 3rd
i think the cobalt will lose to the neon, sushi boat, and gas guzzler. (srt-4,eclipse,srt-8)
it could destroy all stock scions, celicas and most type s.
dont know much about mustangs to make a decision on that.

ok, i have no problem admitting when i'm wrong. i did a lil search and found out the new 06 v6 eclipses do a 1/4 mile at 14.9. it weighs just under 500 lbs more than a cobalt and a lil over 700 lbs more than the rsx type S. w/ my mods i think i can take a stock 06 eclipse.
sorry for my comment earlier.

yeah dude. i thought you were b.s.'n about that weight but it's 4288 pounds and 0-60 @ 6.8 seconds that thing is a boat lmao
linky link
Let's throw around some more HP numbers like they matter. 90% of the cars on that list are over-rated.
The only car on that entire list that will beat a SRT-4 or a Cobalt SS is a 2005 Mustang GT. And thats if it is being driven perfectly. The are very high 13 to low to mid 14 second cars.
My Cavalier Z24 is a match for a V6 Mustang.

The eclipse is powerful, but its weight levels the playing field to compete with the cobalt. According to edmunds.com, it ran a 14.93 @ 97.46mph.. Which is not too far off from 14.7 which seems to be the average time for the Cobalt tests. I think it would be a driver's race between the cars.
However if you go to a track and watch a Cobalt SS run you'll probably see it pulling 15's, which I think has mostly to do with the tires not putting the power to the pavement. Id like to see one run with drag radials and a proper burnout.

I have found no evidence anywhere of the 2006 eclipse GT being able to do 0-60 faster than 5.8 seconds. In fact, most number point to upper 6's. I would have to say at this point the Cobalt SS would be neck and neck against it if not beat it if the upper six number proved to be correct. Even if best case is true and it's 5.8.. that's pretty darn close and two average drivers would still be still neck and neck.
It may have alot more torque and horsepower, but it's heavy and all that power just doesn't seem to do much for the cars times based on all the numbers we've seen so far.

Do simple bolt-on's include Header, Intake, Full Exhaust and everyother " R " accessory?
A RSX Type S is no match for a Cobalt SS. There WHP is terrible and there WTQ is even
worse.
The Cobalt SS and SRT-4 aren't even in the same class as some of the cars they are compared to. They are competition for 90% of the american V8's produced in the last 5 years, not 170HP imports. IMO......

but since we are talking stock cars here i think the 2005 acura rsx type s will give it a good run. might be low on tq but 210hp on a N/A vehicle that weighs about 200 lbs less than a cobalt SS is not an easy win.
No offense to a Type S, (3 of my friends have them and they are not bad) but it wont give the SS a good run, stock for stock it just doesnt have it in it to keep up. Ive raced my friends when i first got it and was new to stick and even with bad shiftign an all i would always win, now that im better i blow the color of his doors im gone so fast.
(im not bashing hte type S, i like them but they just dont have the tq or the hp to keep up, if your goign with the hp the SS gets near 225 to the wheel, mine gets 228 stock
)

just curious to know what years the rsx's were. stock for stock the SS will win no doubt about that. i thought the SS were rated at 205hp. did GM under rate their engines? if you getting 225hp to the wheels that is very impressive.
228 actualy i have the dyno sheet up ont eh site, ya i was dumbfounded when i saw it say 228 max, it was an 04 rsx-s with an AEM V2 in it, granted it had 2 12's in the trunk wich i think ways around 100lb maybe less. btw nice car i dont usualy like gold rims but they go with urs

hes right , and with the charger come on now one thing you should imprint in your brain is, theres no replacement for displacement, only one exception to this rule is boost
