An ammendment to the political threads rule...
If you're going to ban political threads, I say ban political signatures too. People with **** like "11/4/2008, the Day America Died" are just provoking others. If you can't respond to something that people put in their sigs, then they shouldn't be allowed to put it in their sig in the first place.
Does that make sense?
I've seen a few so far... AlleyCat58 for example. I've seen others. I hate to point her out cause I know her personally, but it's true. I'm not doing it to single her out, but I'm using hers as an example so we can maybe prevent some controversy.
If you don't want to talk about it, I say don't allow people to post about it... AT ALL.

the point of no threads about it is so there is no e-debate. You can't hold a discussion through signatures.

Second, the rules state no flaming in posts and threads. So can I now flame in my sig then? Can I put offensive NSFW photos in my sigs? Do the rules pertaining to threads not pertain to signatures now? Hmmm.

No, the rules apply to signatures. But the rules state "We have disallowed all political threads".

Yeah... the idea to go off topic is dumb, but thanks for the request. This was meant to be a suggestion and a mature discussion of that suggestion. For someone that called my sn into question, you're sure not making a very mature suggestion... hgirl.
Reign, I know what you're saying. I'm just saying that these kinds of sigs are going to promote disagreements and people are going to want to respond. Why bait people into e-fights when you can't have them?

Wow, you will not quit will you? I've been more than willing to drop the topic civilly. I WILL NOT discuss it here.
Again. Find someone else to harass since this is your new "thing." I'm more than sick of it, as are others. If you want to find someone to harass and start fights with, go troll somewhere else.
THE END.

Well in that case.... Yah I agree the strict interpretation of the rules would mean they do not apply to signature.
But in law and such, the statements are often considered to determine the intent behind them. So I could see the OP's point from that perspective.
Solution: Write the rules in French which apparently is the international language of law
