Control Panel?

First off, I was curious how to go about accessing your control panel? I know you jump straight to in when you first log in..but after that, where's the link to go back? Second...tracking threads you're involved with. In other boards, you simply go to your user CP...and any thread that's active that you're subscribed to is listed..after about 12-24 hours of inactivity, the thread is no longer displayed..but there is a way to view all your subscribed threads. Makes it easier to keep track of where you posted, if there are new posts, etc. Right now, all I have to go off of is email notification..but they don't always email you for every new post. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but so far, I've been unable to see these sort of features. I know the board is still new, and things are being worked, which is why I figured i'd post something about it.

The way I did it was clicked on my username, then clicked to send myself a message, then clicked "your account page"

I then bookmarked it

Not the easy way but it worked

Haha..clever. I suppose I could do the same, but there's really nothing in my user CP I need access to. I just figured a way to see all my posts/threads, so that's cool...but, still. Lots of work in the future. Poor, poor JonelZ.

Btw, what bulletin board software is this? Once the member population grows, we might consider moving to vBulletin. I know it isn't free, or cheap...but with donations, we could do it.

Very true. =) I guess I'm biased with vBulletin, 'cause that's all I've used..and the features are amazing.

Rage3d and the S10 forum use that one, very cool

But this one has a ton of features, was just reading about it on the phpbb site, not really that much different than the others

That's good to know. The more personalized, the better.

Hello:

There are four ways to easily find your posts:

1. On the Home page (https://www.cobaltss.net). Login in and under “Who’s Online” you will see it will tell you:

Click on the number of private messages you have (16 in my case) and it will take you right to your Control Penal!

2..Use the SEARCH button at the top of the forums and perform an Search by your username.

3 Click on your username most anywhere in the forums and it will take you to your profile. In your profile clcik on

This is probably the easiest way! You don’t even have to subscribe and go into your CP. It’s all a click away on top of the forums

About the Database:
For me Vbulletin is way to busy and harder to follow. It’s kindda hard on your eyes. phpBB has a smoother flow and easier to read, but that’s just my opinion.

If you go to http://www.big-boards.com , you will see that there are just as many phpbb boards as there are vbilletin. It’s really just a matter of preference and I prefer php. At the moment there are no plans for switching the database, but of course if you guys donate, and demand Vbulletin, I wont let you down (only 2 ppl donated thus far ).

Again thank you for your input, it really does mean a lot to me that you guys care to make this site the best it can be! You guys rock!

He's the best site admin so far. Very informative and prompt. I look forward to learning more about this bulletin system. If it's as versatile as I'm being lead to believe, sounds like it'll do the job just fine.

Not to join the ass kissing but I agree, on other forums the Admin's seem to have given up on their own site and only appear when major problems occur. It's cool that Jonel is as into the car as we are! It's probably a little easier now since the site is still small, but either way keep up the good work Jonel!

Exactly. And I know most Admins mean well, but structure is very key. The Probe forum has thousands and thousands of members..our most on was over 700. With a volume like that, it's easy to become overwhelmed. Structure is key, and so far, Jonel is going about it in the right way. Not overbuilding, holding out on staffing, adding features as we go, and so forth. Best way to handle it is build as you go, IMO. So far, so good.
