Should post count be eliminated from the user info?

ssweeet 03-10-2008 01:34 AM

Definitely agree. As far as I'm concerned, people with less post count are frowned upon because they don't have a lot of posts or are new to the site. I've been on this site since November of last year and I have hardly any posts. But I do a lot of researching on this site.

Clearly  :p: ;)

Mnatvyc1223 03-10-2008 01:35 AM

i'm a member of a few sites that list NOOB and not so noob, knowledgeable, and so on

then theres one that does it by Cash and what not but they have a different system.

me personally i dont mind the post count. i just didnt like the rating system we had b4 and now it's gone so...

DC52NV 03-10-2008 01:37 AM

motion to ban saunders1986 for his suggestion.

REIGN SS 03-10-2008 01:38 AM

Honestly, I don't care...

Does post count divide things? A lot of times yes, some are considered n00bs because they have only a few posts. But on the other hand, sometimes the new members misinterpret post count as a correlation to member knowledge.

I think not counting the Lounge/Dungeon posts is the best solution.

If my post count disappeared, or was reduced to tech section posts only i wouldn't mind...

i feel responsible for all the whoring that's been going on. i was the one that brought the whore threads out from the beginning but never meant for people to whore in other threads on the site.

i wouldn't mind either. most of my posts come from me posting in threads that are in the wrong section.

Mnatvyc1223 03-10-2008 01:44 AM

i think it's something that shouldnt be questioned, go look at pretty much any forum site and you'll more than likely find a whore thread.

it just happens!

I am too, since I brought it back to life. But the whore threads are not about post count, and one word posts, & useless "whoring" are frowned upon. It is really meant to be an off-topic chat thread, to keep the OT stuff to one thread as opposed to all over the site.

JRelly 03-10-2008 01:45 AM

Does it really matter?

saunders1986 03-10-2008 01:47 AM

whore treads are the devil ......... people go crazy trying to up their post count...... i donno why they think post count is so imp....... what i'm asking is post count to be hidden, so only you, and mods can see how many post u have made to this site..... but not everyone else.

i think people are starting to think post count = respect/knowledge ....... when really, when i see a person who has only been here for 1 month but has 7 thousand post i think of them as a WHORE

hatrickstu 03-10-2008 01:47 AM

who cares?

trent_ky 03-10-2008 01:48 AM

posts in dungeon/lounge should not count thats the best solution imo...but what about past posts? isnt the "damage" already done?

thats what chat should be used for........ think of how much bandwidth 23,000 whore post take up......

Mnatvyc1223 03-10-2008 01:50 AM

JB doesnt seem to mind the whoring...

saunders1986 03-10-2008 01:55 AM

thats the thing JB should mind the whoring!

not as much as a chatroom does, surpisingly... and I told you, the Chat room is stupid. If you come in mid convo you cant catch up b/c there is no history, and it moves to fast

there was a time when he did mind them and put a stop to them. then they were allowed again.

saunders1986 03-10-2008 02:02 AM

hiding post count would be the best idea this time around, because people could still have convo in the "whore treads" and the people who just do it to up their post count would stop

Acey 03-10-2008 02:15 AM

I haven't been here long... fill me in. There used to be a respect rating system before? I think those work pretty well on other boards...

there was a reputation system...i had 2 green boxes lol

KillerBee 03-10-2008 02:18 AM

No because post count is what helps someone to buy from someone......

yea i wouldnt buy from someone under 1000 post..

saunders1986 03-10-2008 02:21 AM

lol at raven ............ acey, there was a rating system here... but that got abused.... there were like "red clubs" and "green clubs" people in red club would give people in the green club neg rep, and people in the green club would give people in the red club positive rep...

red = people with negitive rep
green = people with positive rep.

....... so no one knew what people really were anyway

cobalt_driver 03-10-2008 02:21 AM

i like it, bc if u ask for advice, normally someone with high post count, is logical. ya know? it shows they've been involved. also, its good feedback for buying/selling.

Witt 03-10-2008 02:22 AM

Voted for lounge posts not counting under post count.

Works on other car forums well, don't see why it would harm anything here. If people are going to use post count as a precursor to experience and knowledge and moderators keep threads to the relevant sections, keeping post counts out of the off topic area would be a step in the right direction under that line of thought.

Personally I could care less. I don't trust anyone's advice unless I've personally wrenched or tuned with them before, but to many, post count is a lot.

saunders1986 03-10-2008 02:22 AM

post count dosnt help in buyin somethin, a person thats been here 1 month with 7 thousand post is still the same person if they only had 100, if anythin date joined would help decide wither to buy from someone

OneSlowGto 03-10-2008 02:24 AM

I know in a lot of forums the only posts that count are in the tech sections. All other lounge posts are not counted at all. That is a good way to see who actually contributes to the real "tech" posts and not the "My girlfriend just got banged by 5 black guys" threads.....

killer bee.... if we didnt count post in the lounge or dungeon, we would still have our post count..... but than it would be "real post" not whore post.
