Question Sticky shifter how do I clean under there?

That's not my shifter but for an idea of what I mean.

I think the previous owner of my car spilled soda or something sticky on the shifter. I tried to use a wash cloth to clean where the shifter knob slides when but don't know how to get under there.

When I move the shifter down or up it feels sticky like some gunk is in there.

How can I get that cover off to clean whatever gunk is in there and make my shifter move smoothly.

What should I be using to clean in there? Anything I should NOT use?

Thanks!

Spray some WD40? might smell but should make it loose again.

use a small paint brush, and spray an interior cleaner, whatever you would normally use to clean the dash, on the plastic, then use the brush to get in the small space. This also works well for getting dust out of cracks.

That whole panel should pop off pretty easy, start by pulling on the e-brake end if it...

If the interior cleaner isnt cutting it you can use denatured alcohol or or rain X (same thing) to get it clean.

Just put it on a part that of the plastic you cant see first to make sure it wont damage it because it can damage plexi glass.

Do I need to remove anything first or is it just all held in by pressure clips like the dash? I don't want to end up breaking something lol.
