Does Vince/Trifecta lock the tunes on the ECM?
Does Vince/Trifecta lock the tunes on the ECM?
I have a buddy at work with HPT and is gonna look at my car and change some things around but he heard that Vince locks his tunes and HPT cant enter and write over it. I really hope thats not true. Any input or info would be nice, cuz vince has my car tuned.
It is true, and I'm grateful for it. It keeps people who don't know what they are messing with from changing things. (A guy I took my car to couldn't change anything cuz it was locked).
But if you are looking to tweak it more and don't want Trifecta anymore, then yeah, I think you need to go back to the stock tune, then do it from scratch. Or get Vince to tweak your tune maybe?

Vince is taking time away because his wife just had a baby and i wanna go HPT now but i need to do this ASAP as i just got some mods installed and need a tune to adjust some things.
How can i get back to the stock tune or stage 2 tune. I have the paper work for the stage 2 tune still for my VIN and i work at Chevy so if they can somehow change it with there tech 2 program thad be awesome.

I think you just need to find someone with a tuner for it, and get your original tune file back from them.
I'm no expert, I just know that I got Tom (a dude from Calgary) to do mine. He brought the tuner, hooked it up, flashed the ECM, did a test run, then emailed Vince or whoever else at Trifecta and they tweaked it. He said I would just have to meet up with him again if I ever needed the stock tune back on.
Hopefully someone else can either back up what I'm saying or correct me. But getting the Trifecta dudes to revert it is your best bet.
He lives like 15 minutes from my house to lol.
I emailed him whats goin on and what i need fixed and what solutions we have. And can tech2 not log my stage 2 file back on my car if i have the code for that?

I don't think the Tech 2 scanner can remove it. Not 100% sure, but I thought that was the point, it's kind of a "Stealth" tune. Also, the ECM is locked, not sure if you can override it without a trifecta tuner.I think you just need to find someone with a tuner for it, and get your original tune file back from them.

On my LNF, Tech2 could remove a locked Trifecta tune. What i had to do was flash a stock tune using a different LNF cobalts vin. That in itself removed the Trifecta tune. Then i reflashed a stock tune using my own VIN. Then you have open access to the ECM
PS, on mine i had to use Tech2 to do a clutch relearn too. Car wouldn't start without it.
Q: Does the GT Tuner "lock" the PCM after flashing it?
A: PCM “locking” is a feature that became available with the Gen III LS1/Vortec PCM. PCMs have a “password” that is required to access them, and there is a specific algorithm for establishing the “password” from information provided by the PCM. It is possible, however, to change this “password” to something else. Some custom PCM tuners will change the “password” for the stated reason of preventing others from accessing the tune stored in the PCM.
There are a few problems with doing this, the biggest being that once the password is changed, only the person who changed it will be able to program the PCM again. The customer will be “stuck” going back to the same PCM tuner if they make any further modifications, and if they wish to go to another PCM tuner, they will need to purchase a new PCM which is not locked.
Some PCM tuning customers may be OK with this, but at Trifecta Performance, we do not believe this is our decision to make for the customer. We also acknowledge that changing the PCM “password” doesn’t really provide any additional degree of security around the contents of the PCM because, like any “security” mechanism, an individual with the right set of skills and information can circumvent it.
Having said all of this, we are also providing a tool and service to custom PCM tuners. We have received feedback from at least one custom PCM tuner that having the “password” change feature in the GT Tuner would be a requirement for doing business with them. If there comes a time where Trifecta Performance is required to lock PCMs after flashing them as part of the terms of offering a specific PCM tuner’s programs through its unique service, we pledge to you that we will openly disclose that our product will lock the PCM before selling you a custom program.
So to me it sounds like trifecta doesnt lock the PCMS? But everybody is sayin they do and that vince does when Trifecta clearly states its an option with the GT TUNER.

That's makes more sense.
Update
I emailed Vince and responded back....He said i shouldnt have any problems getting into the ECU or the current trifecta tune with HPT or tech2. So that answers my own question from the source himself.
