Ok guys so this will be the first NY winter that i will have a beater so the cobalt stays off the salty roads.

Has anyone used a car cover for the winter ?

The car will be outside in the driveway. I am not sure if the car cover is worth the investment or not.

It has been driven through the past 8 winters and still looks clean as heck. If I clean off the snow when it snows is a cover even needed ?

Looking for opinions on covers, experiences with different brands etc. please don't fill the thread with b.s like " put it in a garage".

 

I wouldn't bother covering it if it is going to be sitting outside, I think that would do more harm then good by holding all of the moisture in.

 

Well if i buy a cover its going to be a ligit one for example a weather-shield hd. So moisture will not be an issue.

IDK. Car covers leave swirls in the paint from the wind moving them. I know so many people and places have this technology and that, but I dont see how fabric being drug across the paint dry can not leave marks...

 

If you get a fitted car cover and properly secure it, it shouldnt move around enough to do any damage to the paint.

 

ive used a **** ball cover for the past 2 years to keep the tree sap off of the car. it has its swirl marks but i mean the car is pretty old lol.

i want to get it detailed so the swirl marks will be taken care of. Will a good wax/sealant be enough to keep UV rays from damaging the paint too much ?

 

A good wax sealant should keep it protected throughout the winter, but snow and ice melt mixed with dirt and dust from sitting outside can also cause swirl marks.

If it were my car it would be covered with a quality weather proof cover.

 

My brother used a car cover on his old camaro while it was outside for winter and when he lifted it off the clear coat started to bubble. Definitely wouldn't recommend using a car cover.

 

If you use the wrong kind of car cover, I can see that happen.

A quality outdoor cover should not cause that.

If you seal it to tight and not let the paint/clear coat breath (Throw a piece of baloney at your car and see what happens)

And if it is to loose (unless the whole inside is lined with a very very fine microfibre) it will leave swirls and scuff marks all over your car so you will need to clay and polish after.

From personal experience I would say inside or out I would stay away from car covers, But if you can't it is a lot cheaper to fix swirls and scuffs, Rather than having clear flake off or even have to get a new paint job.

 

Store it indoors or drive it.

Long Island winters aren't even that bad.

 

Its the salt i dont want on the car.

For now its not covered. Its got some wax on it so i hope thats fine

 

Just leave it like that and clean the snow off when needed.

 

Man I was really hoping to hear some better news than that. There are some decent car covers you can buy too, I'd imagine they would protect against stuff like swirl marks and moisture.

 

My car is stored in my heated garage all winter and it's under a cover as well.

Never has my cover scratched or left swirl marks in my paint.

 

covercraft makes some good ones. They are a pretty penny though.

these are the 2 i would consider but the price is pretty steep for a cover.
