Any good places for autocross?

I know of a few 1/8th mile drag strips around DFW, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places that would allow me to take my car on a autocross track or road course?
I found this little S curve next to the highway recently, and I went through it at about 55-60, and I want more.

Motorsport Ranch in Cresson is an awesome place to go. A lot of our detail customers have memberships there, my friends Mitch and Glenn race in the CMC series out there, and Mitch is also an instructor. We had talked about having a CobaltSS.net day out at the track where we could all take our cars around (since that's what they're built for anyhow), he said he may be able to get us a deal on the rates if we get enough interest. If there are enough that want to do this let me know and I'll start working on my connections

I think that would be awesome.... where are the other people that went to the meet before the superbowl?
If all those people were to show up we'd have 30+ people interested

wow those are some hefty dues/initiation fees though. Could we get a one time deal or something?

i used to have an scca membership when i lived in florida, since ive been back in texas i havent had enough time to compete in a full season(going to definitely try this year though) so it hasnt been worth renewing. id suggest you try to make it to one of the mineral wells events with equipe rapid, the courses are generally more open than the scca courses. with an ss/sc you could definitely hit 85-90mph. as for the motor sports ranch id be interested if enough interest could be shown. by what i understand when a car club rents the track for a day or weekend the regular membership stuff doesnt apply, the regular members dont have access to the track on those days.

Yes, I can have my friend be our instructor and I think he said if we get 10+ people then it'll be a lot less. I'll check on the pricing this weekend because I think I'll see him on Sunday.

I would recommend you going to one of your local SCCA region events and checking them out. It's very addictive. I wish I would've started Autocrossing when I lived in the DFW area.

You do not have to be a SCCA member to compete at the events, but you normally get a price break for being a member. Our region knocks $10 off if you're a member.

I would say that you go to a few as a spectator and see if it's something that you would be into.

One word of caution..... look closely at what you're running.
Right off the bat, with you having the GM Stage 2 kit that throws you in SM ( Street Mod ) and that's the "anything goes" class basically.

Around here, it's a nutty group of guys running everything from roll caged mustangs, beefed up WRX's, Evo's, All Trac Celicas, you name it. Even a twin charged Mini.

If you're just wanting to go and have fun, it's a great way to do it. It IS addictive. I run in D-stock with my car and I've already dropped a decent amount ( and going for more ) to get the car up to par with my competition.

Get out and enjoy it!

yea the key is to have fun, ive been autoxing for about three years and in most classes i dont really stand a good chance of winning. there are alot of national caliber drivers in the dfw area and they can amaze you how fast what you would consider a slow car can be. if you come out look for a blue ls coupe, ill give you a ride along if you like. heres a pic of my car.
the only difference will be a set of numbers on the door and some hoosier stickers.

I would definitely want to set something up... And, as of right now I can say I just want to play around with the autocrossing, but like you said, I'll end up throwing more cash into this money pit to even up with the competition...

I think it'd be awesome if we could get a group to go to the auto cross stuff, I've been looking on the scca page and it looks like theres alot of stuff going on in the not so distant future too...

autocross is actually the best precurser to getting into wheel to wheel racing. it teaches you car control at a much faster pace than a road course can. most people who learn to autocross well can easily make the jump to road courses, while those who start with road racing have a hard time with autocross courses due to the consecutive turns without straights.

So does anybody wanna go to mineral wells next sunday? I'll be there about the time they start racing, not going to run until I get tires on, maybe march or april but I want to see the setup out there, should be much bigger than pennington field.

I dont know about this weekend, but I do want to go out and watch before I participate I think.
Then again, I might try and just jump in on 3/17 and do the class the day before the first SCCA solo event

that would be a very good idea, the autocross school is pretty comprehensive. i attended the one year before last and tom was the instructor for the front wheel drive cars, he runs a neon in d street prepared. he's a pretty knowledgable guy and has taken alot of the higher end schools himself. in an afternoon hell definitely make you faster, first you drive the course and then ride along as he drives your car(hang on). well worth the fifty bucks and you get to race the next day. i might go to it this year and use it as a test and tune, but ill definitely be there on race day. hope this helps
