Lone Star Bash feedback thread

Since we're always looking to make next year's bash bigger and better, and we as the organizers can only see things from one side, we would like to gather some feedback from you guys to see what we can do.

What did you like?
What didn't you like?
What would make you bring more people / cars from your crew next year?
If you had any friends (or you yourself) didn't come - why not?

All feedback/comments you have are appreciated.

What did you like?
good times

What didn't you like?
humidity but that is nothing we can control, and from that I guess is why we ran slower

all in all, I had a great time and I can't wait for next year

I was not at last years bash, but from what everyone said last years meet was bigger. I think something more central would be nice. Away from a humid place like Houston. I didn't mind the drive down there, but it's also why none of showed our cars. We left at 5:30 in the morning and still showed up late.

But Houston is always always always humid in the spring/summer. It made for a very hot/sweaty/uncomfortable time. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed myself. But the weather sucked. It's one thing to be hot, but to be hot and humid was just terrible

It would have been nice if there was a tent a little after the gate that would have been in charge of selling show tickets (for those that didn't pre reg). I found it very confusing to get all the way down past the cars only to be told to circle around. It would be more organized to have a tent right after the gate directing people where they needed to go.

I also think that it would be a good idea if next year you work out a deal for food and sell a meal ticket. Something that included a food and drink for a little bit better of a deal. We showed up late also cause we were hungry and didn't want to pay high prices for track food.

TShirts?? I was really hoping there would be a tshirt for the event. Or did I miss something?

I know that all this costs money and takes a lot of planning. Like I told Scott when he started planning this for this year. I am more than happy to help and I enjoy planning events. Just let me know and I'm there.

What did you like?

I liked all the cool peeps that showed up. And i liked that my car got a pic with a sexy chick instead of my fat ass.

What didn't you like?

I honestly didn't like the classing. This has probably been my crew's biggest issue because there's no real clear distinction between what pushes you into wild class and what keeps you in mild. Two years ago, all I had was a carbon fiber hood, a touchscreen, and some custom work on my interior trim; and somehow i got put in wild with CJ who has like 50 bujillion things done. This year, an interior swap with a ss/tc, same trim work, but I lost the hood and touchscreen; and I added some powdercoated work and paint. If I was gonna be consistent, I would've put me in wild.

Here's another comparison. Reckless (don't know his name), two years ago, had an unpainted body kit and a couple of other things like me, and he got put in wild as well. Fast forward to this year, he has a carbon fiber hood, and some other stuff and gets put in mild. That's a little inconsistent if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not attacking the judges by any means. I'm just saying there really needs to be a set way that you guys are going to class our rides and make it known to everyone. Cause some of my guys were actually gunning to be classed in wild, and they got classed as mild. And I'm talking about guys that have done boosted conversions, interior swaps, rims, systems, paint (things that really make them legitimate wild cars).

What would make you bring more people / cars from your crew next year?

I think it would be cool if a representative from each crew got involved in some aspect of the judging. Maybe not the whole show, but there could be a trophy for "car club's choice". I think it would actually encourage people to join our respective clubs more, and it would also make people come more.

If you had any friends (or you yourself) didn't come - why not?

I came. Only friend that didn't come is because he's broke and barely got a job.

@Ash:
I think the reason we didn't do shirts is because we barely broke even on them last year. We're obviously not a profit org or anything but if we're losing money to sell shirts it's gonna get cut. (I really wanted a shirt too tbh)

If you'd like to help us out with the next one, head on over to our forums (http://www.centexcarclub.com/forums/) and talk to Scott. We'd love the help. :-)

I'm not 100% sure what happened back then as I moved to Austin the month after it happened, but is it possible that he requested to be put in Wild instead of Mild? You can always go to the higher class - that's what Josh did this year with his Redline and he ended up with Best in Show.

But I get what you're saying, and I like the representative idea. I'll definitely run that by him. :-)

wont be in SA because the SAR owner is unwilling to work with us, period. thats the same reason it is not in temple any more.

I would like to address the classing issue for a moment.

yes, 2 years ago reckless was in wild(custom) and for the past 2 years he has been in MILD.
the reason he AND you were in custom 2 years ago is because the first year of bash i lost money on awards. so the second year i decided to get awards and make classes based SOLEY on PREREGISTRATIONS!!!.......which there were very few of i might add..anyone who went to 08 bash will remember this.. since there werent very many pre regs there ended up being only TWO classes.....street and custom. Street cars consisting of mostly stock cars with SIMPLE bolt ons( there were quite a few of them) and custom consisting of anyone with what we considered a higher modded show car. that make sense?
This all changed again last year when many more people pre registered. so more classes and awards were given. and i kept the same setup THIS year in hopes more would show, even though very few pre registered.... which turned out bad for me cus i lost $$ in the awards department.
So basically this all boils down to one thing...PreRegistrations. DId you preregister? Im doubting it .
Ive preached this for years...........THIS IS A NON PROFIT EVENT .....This is not some show that is put on in order make money like most other shows you go to. This event is still put on for the same reason it was the first year. to be a REGIONAL MEET with year long bragging rights !!!!!

I thank everyone for their imput and i welcome more. All suggestions are considered as we always try to change things for the better...sometimes it doesnt work, sometimes it does. i dont know either way unless you tell me.
how did everyone like the new race competition? the race awards ?? the specialty awards? should i keep doing it? stop it ? change it in anyway??

I liked the race competition, it gives everyone a chance at winning. Makes it more of a drivers competition, instead of just my car is faster than yours.

The specialty awards were definitely a nice touch scott! If I can make a suggestion, though: I would think about making the specialty awards the people's choice, just to make it more fun. I can't speak about the bracket racing, cause I had to leave early.

Now, as far as the classing goes, let me say this. I did pre-register. I can say that much. I can preach on to my guys about pre-registering as much as I like, but in the end it's up to the individual. I can understand how pre-registering can affect how many classes are at a show. But when more cars show up than expected, you adapt. At IFO they do this all the time with us, especially in Houston, since GM of Houston easily racks in 30-40 domestic cars for them for the past two years. They only expect a total of 3 or 4 domestic compacts total, but when they see us show up (no pre-reg), they adapt and give us our own catagories (like best cobalt, best domestic, mild and custom). So they don't rely on pre-reg with us so much. And if they have to make a trophy, they just tell us it'll take a while to make it.

All I'm suggesting is to be prepared for what you know is going to be inevitable. More cars are going to come than what you anticipate from the pre-regs. And when it comes time to class them on the fly, there needs to be consistent judging about what car gets classed into what, even if you have to come up with new classes on the fly. But you're gonna tell me that stenguyen1's car (a boosted 2.2) is mild just like that yellow g5 that took home a trophy? Nothing against either one of their whips (and they're both houston guys), but that IMHO, doesn't sound like consistent classing.

Actually, the exact opposite happened this year. We got 3 trophies for every class, and ended up having a lot fewer people than we expected. The spare trophies were given as specialty awards. :-/

As for Steven vs the other car - what happened? From what I remember Steve's car definitely wasn't street, and it didn't have enough to be in wild either (it only has a blower, no paint, right?). From the few pics I've seen I'd actually class the G5 as Street, so it's possible that he requested Mild instead.

from what steven communicated with me, he got classed as mild, and yet he's a 2.2 supercharged sedan. Add to that his audio/visual mods, suspension mods, and interior and paint work, there should've been no reason why he could not have been one of the custom deltas. But for some reason he was classed as a mild delta. Not sure what happened either, but this is kind of inconsistency I'm addressing. The judging itself went without a hitch! They were fair, and made sure to address each car the exact same way. That's usually what I gripe about to the guys at IFO since one car gets checked for brake dust, and the following one doesn't (hmmm...). You guys asked for feedback, and this is a collective concern from all of my guys.
