trans shop
trans shop
Well looking for a good transmission shop in houston. I think it may be time for a new clutch. So let me know need someone good but not to expensive. Also wat clutch is good for me? Stage 1 or stage 2?. Mods 2.8 etc...
Well I remembered my bro did his tranny abaut a year and a half ago..shop had great custumer service... They said 425 for labor and resurfacing the flywheel.. if I buy the clutch. He said hes checking if he can get cobalt clutches thru his supplier and will call me back with a total price if he gets the clutch hru his supplier. Good price? Anyone know somewhere else I can call for an estimate.
FIST Racing is a dsm shop, but a lot of our guys hang out and get some work done by them. Very friendly guys and I HIGHLY recommend them.
Now, as far as what clutch to get, that depends on how much you plan to spend, and what your future plans are for your car. But in all honesty, I have an Exedy hypersingle, and it has never done me wrong. Worth the money.

You're best bet would be to find someone who could do it "on the side" Even buying the GMPP upgrade clutch for $250, you're probably looking at twice that to have a shop put it in. I could pay this guy $150 to do it in a day or 2. It's a LOT of work.
so 425 is to much for install and warranty on his work? How good is the upgraded clutch? More than enough to hold a 2.8? I thought the gmpp clutch was more than that ill try and search here for info on it
The upgraded clutch from gmpp will hold up to 300hp. Ur safely underneath those numbers with a 2.8. 450 is a decent price, but its really more about do u trust the shop to do good work.
yeah I looked up some info on it everyone that has it is satified with it so I think thats wat im going with. Now do I just need the clutch or d I need the upgraded slave cylinder and the clutch hose or wat ever it is thats on the gm parts direct that says its recommended whe doinf the clutch. And yes I do trust them they did good work for my bro.
can anyone tell me how the gm upgraded clutch/flywheel compares to the centerforce clutch/flywheel? I'm running time attack and scca solo autocross and daily driver uses. Engine mods are: gm stage 2, cold air intake, exhaust manifold and catback. On paper this = roughly 255 to 260hp, dyno hp tune coming later this month via AMS Performance Shop. Should be around 275 to 280 hp after dyno tuned.Any input appreciated.
280 on stage 2 injectors? idk, i'd get some 60's or you'll be maxing those injectors pretty quick. Just so you know, no one has really been able to push the m62 past 280 efficiently, unless they run e85 and cooling mods up the ass.
OP, for your info, if you upgrade the clutch, you should upgrade or at least replace the slave cylinder as well. Not sure about the clutch hose, i guess that one is preference.

quick question though i know im not near 300hp (dynoed 223 on previous base tune have since retuned more agressive and added an intake) but i know it doesnt take 300hp to brake loose a 300 hp clutch?
250-clutch
60--slavecylinder
10--hose
425-install

around 750 or so
even on a modified stage 2 tune, there's no way you'll see 300 wheel horsepower. You'll be closer to 250 or so. It's really hard (but not impossible) to make the m62 hit 300+ hp. And you have to do significant modding to get it there. With what you're planning, you'll be fine with that clutch. Just plan to get at least some cooling mods as well.
