Civic Si Vs. SS/SC

Greetings from Afghanistan. I have just about a month left here and my friend is really getting anxious to race me. I know street racing is bad... but I need to shut him up!

My question is toward the Phoenix valley, Does anyone on this forum canyon race? and if so have you raced a short, fat, Hispanic guy (Pablo) in a black 2003 Civic Si (minivan looking one)? I ask because... i quote;

"Davin ur cars handling compared to mine is weak.....I have spanked countless slobalts super slow. On an uphill or downhill battle ur car is inferior....on a flat track maybe. Ask surge I am no joke out there. Don't mean to brag but I can handle my own quite well."

I've known this guy for about 6 yrs now, and he's been known to talk A LOT of crap... especially when it comes to cars. I'm just doing my research... like to know what I'm getting myself into before I either make a fool of myself.

I know he has a lot of mods. I just wrote him an email asking what all he has done... but i'll only really be able to verify them in person.
I used to work with the guy and he bought that car brand new so he's had plenty of time/money to put into it.
I'm sure he has the basic bolt-ons and some suspension mods. In a drag race, I know i can rape him... its just the curves that he thinks he has a chance.
I'll only have one mod when I see him. then i'll empty my large savings into this car and show him mod for mod his civic is not "superior."

With a coilover setup that car will smoke your in the twisties. Even w/ just springs and sway it will probly beat you up.

IIRC the civics have independent rear suspension?

springs and or coils will make that thing a nice little handler in the twisties

Well if that independant suspension is so awesome... I'll have to step-up my game. Does anyone think that coilovers, swaybars, and bushings help me out or am I missing something?

that should about cover it but keep in mind if hes got a lot of mods suspension may not get you ahead. lol

find out what he's got and determine whether its worth it or not to spend money on suspension. y'know?

Ok, this is what he said...
"Front and rear strut bars, ksport rear camber kit, progress 25mm rear sway bar/tie bar, ksport full race coilovers, hks sri type r headder, custom exhaust w/apex muffler, cf hood/wing.
17rsx type s wheels w/Yokohama s drives"

so... full race coilovers... I think my chances just went down...

If you want to save some $$$ just get the TC shock/struts and pedders.

I'm willing to save and pay the amount for the coilovers, I'm thinking Stance, Pedders, or B&Gs...

Keep in mind this guy is driving an '03 Civic Si hatchback...considered by most Honda guys to be the worst Si made. It's underpowered and overweight compared to the competition of the time, and the suspension was tuned more for comfort than handling. Previous gen Si did more with less.

I'm sure this guy's suspension mods are a solid improvement over stock, but it was far behind the SS handling to start with. Even if the car can pull more lateral g's than the SS with said improvement, it still has a less favorable weight balance, and no LSD (that I'm aware of) to help power out of turns.
