So, I just got an e-mail from the DMV saying I need to re-register and the vehicle license tax is $350??? Are you f-ing kidding me? Then another $50 for my personalized plate! Is this how much it costs you guys?

Since when does the DMV send e-mails? They should send you a letter if there is something going on with your car. Have they sent you legit e-mails before? If not, I'd say this is a scam...

That kind of bill sounds more like the taxes for the purchase of the car. I agree somethings not right.

Wait you didn't buy it in a different state did you? Recently move to a new state? If so then that could explain it, some states (I say some cause I only know about VA, MD and PA) make you pay their sales tax if you bring a car into the state and want to title it there. Its basicly the sales taxes they lost from you buying it in another state. Again I can only speak for VA, MD, and PA cause I know these 3 do it not sure about others.

No, I bought it here in AZ and have had it for a year now. I should call the DMV to ask about it. Also, here in AZ you can sign up to have the DMV e-mail when it is time to renew. I've done it before, but yeah, I'll definitely go straight to the website and see what they have to say.

Umm i think that was for the two year... it is only $25 a year for a custom plate... and the eamil is not a scam once you do it on servicearizona.com or a site like that they will send you and email as well.

It costs you "hundreds" for those little stickers and a new registration card every 2 years?
More like $150ish and thats for my car at over 4000 pounds! You should be around $130 something.

Mine is almost that high. Az has high reg prices on new cars. Nothing new here. Sounds like they're trying to hit you up for the 2yr renewal. Custom plates are $25 a yr and my reg is about $240 for one yr

Usually when you buy a car out of state, the dealer charges you your states tax rate to avoid this problem. i bought my car in NJ and they charged me PA sales tax and sent all the info to the DMV in PA so I didn't have to worry about all that when it came time to register the next year.

2) How much does it cost to title and register my vehicle?

It varies depending on the vehicle. There is a $4.00 title fee; an $8.00 registration fee; plus an air quality research fee of $1.50; and a vehicle license tax (VLT) assessed in place of a personal property tax charged by other states. There may also be a weight fee and commercial registration fee, if the vehicle is registered as commercial. The VLT is based on an assessed value of 60% of the manufacturer's base retail price reduced by 16.25% for each year since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona (15% before 8/1/98). Then, as of the Dec 1, 2000 reduction, the rate is calculated as $2.80 (new vehicles)/$2.89 (used vehicles) for each $100 of the assessed value. For example, for a new vehicle that costs $25,000, the first year assessed value would be $15,000 and the VLT would be $420.00. The second year the assessed value would be $12,562.50 and the VLT would be $363.06.

For a mobile home the title fee is $7.00 per section or unit. No other mobile home fees are payable to MVD.

No prob...it's pretty costly out here. Also, if you do the math you'll see that a 2 year regisration saves you zero on the tax. The only think you save is the 2nd 8 dollar regisration fee.
