In UT, I paid 250 last year on my car to renew (car was a year old) plus my personal plates were 50...

What they do here is base the taxes on how old the car is/the value of the car - your first few years are going to be high then you should notice a decrease as the value of your car decreases... The plate renewal will be standard across the board (except the first year you have them made)...

This doesn't even count the safety and emissions requirements that you have to pay for every other year...

do you drive a 2009 SS/TC, if you dont registration is cheaper... registration goes down as the car gets older...

Wait you didn't buy it in a different state did you? Recently move to a new state? If so then that could explain it, some states (I say some cause I only know about VA, MD and PA) make you pay their sales tax if you bring a car into the state and want to title it there. Its basicly the sales taxes they lost from you buying it in another state. Again I can only speak for VA, MD, and PA cause I know these 3 do it not sure about others.
CA does it too. My GTO was previously a Michigan car

Here in ma we don't have property tax on cars but have to pay excise tax on cars instead. Mine was $380 last year and is $350 this year. What happened to the Obama tax cuts for the working class? Our registration is pretty cheap but excise tax is where they get you.

Im in the military also and mine was 330 for 1yr and 607 for 2yrs but my wife is also on the registration. Trying to get the lean sent to illinois so i can register it there. No emission and can modify my cars anyway i want. See if you can get it registered somewhere else where its not so expensive. AZ is one of the worst places for this. Newer and expensive = expensive to reg...
