7/19 (Sat.)- Fontana/Cali Speedway- Street Legals
Just checking to see if anyone else is going to head out to California Speedway this Saturday. They're having another street legal event. I took the new car out last weekend and had a great time. It was a really slow day and I got in something like 32 passes and met a couple other owners with nice cars. It's hard to say how busy it will be this week, but I was talking up in the tower at the end of the day last Saturday and they said if it's super slow again they're going to start canceling future street legal days, so if anyone has ever wanted to give it a try, now is your time. Weather forecast looks warm but hopefully not as muggy as last week.
I have to take the Cobalt in for service Friday to get something fixed from when I bought the car but am going to try to take it out again. If not I'm still going to show up in something (maybe the SRT-4 although I've been curious what my truck would run
). Something to keep in mind for future track days, they also said they're open to hosting groups. If enough people wanted to show up one weekend we could get a reserved area and maybe a separate run group.
As to this weekend, for anyone that hasn't been to one before it costs $20 to race and $10 for spectators. If you race you'll need to have long pants, a shirt with sleeves, and a helmet if you break into the 13's. Also make sure to have your insurance card and current registration. The tech inspections are pretty easy but just make sure the simple things like no missing lugs, decent tires, battery secured, etc. and you'll have no issues. It's good to show up early if it's busy otherwise you might end up waiting longer to tech. I've still got to get the pictures posted up from last week but I'll also try to get some pics of any Cobalt owner that shows up and is making runs this Saturday.

I dropped the car off at the dealer this morning and they were able to fix the boost gauge/parking light issue and finished it up a few hours later, so it looks like I will be driving the SS out again. I'll be the silver '08 car (unless one of the ~1 or 2 other silver cars that have been delivered in the last couple weeks have been bought and show up
).
Well because of it being so slow again they are going to cancel the next street legal event in August. I was talking with the manager up in the tower again after the races and because of the heat, the gas prices, or whatever is causing it to be so slow, she can't justify keeping the track open. Unfortunately with August canceled there's three weeks of NHRA events in September and a lot of other stuff already booked for the other weekends. Unless there is a private track rental open to the public or a cancellation at the last minute it's looking like there won't be another street legal day until November according to what she was saying. As soon as the lights get installed they will be running evening races but that doesn't look hopeful for completion any time soon (i.e. not this year).
So if you want to race keep an eye on their web site to see if anything opens up. Either that or you have Irwindale/Qualcomm/Barona for eighth-mile and if you want to race quarter-mile there's Famosa and Vegas. The PSCA has an event open to the public this coming weekend with a test and tune day followed by a day of trophy and bracket racing. Other than those type of events there isn't going to be much at Fontana for a while.

Yeah, I was running about a tenth slower than the week before on my best average passes. It didn't help that they weren't doing any track prep at all later in the day. At least the one on the 12th they were putting down some VHT and sweeping the track occasionally.
By the way I just sent you a PM in case you didn't see the thread, but I have the pics from the last two events posted up here.
