Powder Coating SS/SC Rims

I'm thinking about powder coating my rims but i am concerned with the polished aluminum SS/SC rims. Would this cause a problem in the process? Would i need to somehow strip the polish off or would it be ok? Thanks

Im not 100% sure but pretty close. The should acid wash them or sand/bead blast them first then they are washed coated and heat baked. Im pretty sure they would be fine, I was thinkin of doin the same thing.

there really isn't a "polish" on the polished aluminum ss/sc rims. all gm did was shine up the aluminum to make it look like a mirror/polished finish. powder coat should adhere just fine. i'm sure the powder coat shop will do what is need to prep the wheels.

well i hate to question your response but when i see the older and "non-finished" SC rims... their shaping looks a little bit sharper and flat... whereas mine look smooth and soft...
but ur prolly right i really dont know much about the rims... so thank you

i have a 2007 ss/sc with the polished aluminum wheels. i know how they look. what i was trying to say was they don't have a coat of polish on them to make them look shinny. All GM did was take the 05'-06' rims minus the gunmetal coating, and shine them to a mirror finish. some people think they are chrome or have a coating on them. they don't. a powder coater will have no trouble prepping them.

Just buy vinyl overlays in the color that you want

That's what I did to mine. Mine are BLUE

I hate to say yur wrong but I know for a fact the 07 polished SC wheels do have a coating, i had to get one repaired. And when they powder coat they will have to strip it off. And if you want to podercoat the center caps they will probly melt the plastic on the back of them when they bake them, best bet would be to just paint the center caps and lug nuts

funny, because i had all 4 of my wheels damaged due to ******** mounting my tires. i saw my wheels get repaired .... there was no coating put on them, or taken off. polished aluminum wheels do not have a coating to make them look shinny. stop thinking like it is a chrome coating. maybe your wheels are dif. but my 2007 polished wheels have no coating.
