I have a snapon toolbox for sale top box is 10 drawer, bottome box is 14 drawers, it is about 6.5 ft tall black and has a big mural of Dale Earnhart under the top cover along with a few murals on a couple of drawers. This box brand new went for 12000.00, Im going to let it go for 7000.00 It has slight damage to the right side it was tipped over by some schmuck who was loading it up on a flatbed, you can hardly know there is damage, the cover that is on it hides it completely. I could never justify spending 7k on a toolbox. Your souly paying for the Snap on brand. I can go to Sears and get a Craftsman box of the same stature for 600$ and it does the same thing, and holds the same amount of tools.

False. Back in the 1960s and early 1970 Craftman did made nice tool boxes.
I just bought my KRL Snap On Box. Lets see you do this with a craftsman.

My box listed for 9,700 but I got an amazing deal I would rather not brag. But he is probaly right, most people on cobalt site aren't willing to pay more for a toolbox than what their car is worth.

you walk into mechanics shop and see Craftsman tools, etc... that is a fly-by night mechanic, a person who doesn't take enough pride in their work to the point that they think there is a possibility in 5 years they MAY not be in this career


you walk into a mechanics shop and see Snap-on, Mac, etc. you know that is a guy who is in it for the long haul...


I look at it the same way in buying my tools to be an electrician, I could go the cheap route and buy cheap ****... or I could take pride in my work an only buy Klein, Ideal, Greenlee, etc., which is what I do

My Snap-on box was around $12,000. Ill never have to buy another box in my life.
I work with who I believe are the two best technicians in the area and the first thing they taught me was pride. If you have pride in what you do, you'll be damn good at your job.

And for the record...a craftsman box, matco, mac, cornwell, husky, whatever brand will never compare to a Snap-on box. Pull out a drawer on a snap-on box then pull one out on any of the above...big difference.

 

Yeah I'm going to school for automotive and I have to agree that snap-on boxes are legit. I dont agree with paying 12k. You can get good sized ones for much cheaper. As far as the tools. Snap on, Mac, and craftsman all pretty much all on the same level. Each has pros and cons and I myself went with Mac for all my tools and I don't have any complaints.

 

Yeah, agreed. If it's something you're going to use on a daily basis, you may as well buy a good quality, warranty backed product that may even cost 5 or 8 times as much as any other brand; But in the end you'll be ahead because you'll have replaced the cheap part 10 or 12 times.

I have a lot of expensive tools, with the exception of the 1-1/4" socket that I use once every like 6 months to change the oil on the Cobalt... That was a $5 socket from our local budget tool center.

 

meh, ive got a snap-on box from sometime in the 90s...excellent box, but it is showing it's age.

I agree, if you are just screwin around with your/ your girlfriend's/ your buddies' cars, then yeh, go for masturbatercraft, but if you're doin it professionally, get the goodstuff.

My dad's a carpenter. He's got power tools older than I AM, cause he bought the best stuff he could get.
You pay cheap you get cheap. My mom used to get him cheap stuff all th time, thinking 'it's all the same'. No. Any other box would tip over with a person standing in it, let alone with 3 or 4 loaded drawers opened at once. I will admit, 7k is out of the budget for me at the moment, but I MUST say that this will be the LAST tool chest you will ever have to buy in your life.

 

i can vouch for this box if its the red one i think i tech i worked with had this box with cover and it was an amazing box slides worked awesome quality is great and you would be surprised how many ppl would pay that price for that edition its a great price i paid 3600 for a double bay from matco. glws op

The only problem I have with getting tools like Snap On and Matco is the availability of the tools. Say you break something Wednesday and your tool truck doesn't come around until Tuesday you now have to wait almost a week, and even then he may not have the replacement for you on the truck so you have to wait for him to get that. Granted, Sears and Craftsman don't have the specialty tools the other 2 do, but for the basic stuff you can pretty much go after work that day and have the new one to use the next morning.

I had this discussion with my dad one day.

Lets compare a 1k dollar cheap brand and a 7k dollar high end tool chest.

Is the Snap On really gonna last 7 times longer? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Even if the cheaper brand lasts only 15 years, the Snap on would have to last 105 years. Well ****, I only need it for 50 so why not save all of the money.

I'm no math major, but if you save 6k dollars, invest it for 50 years, it would double 5 times. So turn that 6 grand into 100k in 50 years.

I have better things to spend my money on.

That being said, that is a sexy box you got there

This statement couldn't be more wrong! Again in live you get what you pay for. I just bought a snap on 80 tooth 3/8s ratchet... I never want to use a craftsman ratchet again.

 

It's all personal preference. I use snap on and Mac wrenches all the time and I feel my Mac wrenches are just as good as the snap on. Yes it may have. Few extra teeth but I love the rough handle of the Mac. Each company has it's pros and cons. Not one of them is perfect. Like I said they are all the same quality. Your just buying the name and the customer service of who you like the most.
