Rebel mentioned in a past post, that the Zip-ties are optional.
If you find that your the intake happens to rub in your car, zip-tie it. Apparently most cars shouldn't need it though.

hmmm...I guess only time will tell. With Rebel the should have this thing dialed right in. It still looks amazing so I hope everything will be OK.

I am just getting tired of spending money and getting an inferior product from some vendors, not saying that is what is happening here. I wont mention any names but to give an example, I bought a set of brackets for my H/E and when I went to do the install there was no way in heck the H/E was going to fit in my SS/SC with these brackets and the recommended setup. I bit the bullet and did some adjustments to get my H/E installed with them but yet again I paid good money for a promiss that was miss leading.

Exactly how I feel man. I have nothing against rebel. I am more than eager to try out thier stuff. I just have had so many bad experiences with other stuff and wasted money. My HE still isn't on because I can't make it fit right. My projectors are junk and off the car now. I am replacing my injen intake because it has horrible welds that were leaking. Other various issues too.

With the brackets I bought I had to install my Cobra with the hose connections facing outward because with the design of those brackets you cannot install the H/E and connect the hoses with them facing inward there just isn't any room the way our cars are designed. Yes it will fit the IRLs because they have lots of room up front. it is not hard but it did take a while to figure out how to mount it. Once it was up and mounted the plumbing went easy. If you are doing a cobra H/E with a cobalt I suggest you do not by the brackets but fabricate them yourself so that the mount on the ends of your H/E similar to the CA H/E. It was quite appearant that no thought went into these brackets for our cars and were designed for the IRLs in mind.

If you are going to do a H/E install I suggest purchasing the CA H/E because the hoses connect to the side of the H/E. Yes there H/E is expensive but it will save you hassles in the end.

ZIP TIES? This intake is made of 304 stainless should have bracket mounted to the frame.

The reason we use zip ties is because we have a variation of intake sizes if a spacer is used in conjunction, also on the 07's the brake lines are higher so it pushes the intake further up therefore the bracket would have to be re-located. This would cause too many variations and confution. When installing the lower part of the intake it needs to be twisted back and forth to get it inside the coupler and a bracket attached would make it difficut. We have done this on over 20 local customer's cars without any complaints so we didn't see it as a problem. We will look into it further next time we have a larger order.

Rebel it might be worth looking into putting something that you wrap around the intake between the maf sensor and filter that will have a oblong hole to attach to the stud where the factory air box is connected. Hard to visualize, but I did my best..

Could model it, but I dont have time right now

The funny thing, is that if it was a plastic adjustable strap instead of Zip-ites... people wouldn't be complaining....
I don't understand why people get their panties in a knot about zip ties.

Talking

I've been thinking about this.

If you want a stable bracke you could in theory go down to the hardware store and into the furnace heating duct section. Buy some of those metal duct ties with the holes in it and make a bracket out of that stuff cause it is flexable and easy to bend and create your own braket instead of using zip ties. That way you get your own customized bracket.

Sometimes I even amaze myself!

cheers

There fugly. Yes, no one will see them but I will know there there.

It does not matter to me either way after I thought about the fitment issues that all the name brand CAI have with there brakets.

The idea I'm going with, is actually a bottom support bracket.
Basically an adjustable bar that cradles the intake from the bottom, using the stock intake mount.
I'd be making it out of a small piece of flat bar, with a slot in it.

RAW told me mine will be shipped early next week. I was also thinking someting along that line. It all depends on how the install goes whether we need it or not. A free moving senerio may not be a bad idea if it does not move much. I have the opening to the fender where the intake goes in to the wheel well surounded with 1/4" vacume hose so the CAI does not rub against bare metal so I'm hopin this will give it some stability and I wont have to bother with pre fabbing a bracket.

Now in the future if RAW was to prefab a cradle that utilized the existing stock mount point that would be sweet. Take note boys.

cheers
