2006 SS/SC FE5 Struts Replacement

Hey guys ... everything I'm seeing in here seems to be regarded to modified/lowered front suspension. I'm just trying to replace some struts on a 2006 SS/SC after 100K miles ...

I'm seeing everyone referring to CAD(crateenginedepot.com) for parts ... but I'm just looking for Stock FE5 Replacements, and the Monroe Quick Kit looked easy (this includes the mount and bearing up there too right?)
Quick-Strut Assembly 172179L
Monroe Quick-Strut 172179L - Complete Strut Assembly | O'Reilly Auto Parts

I'm thinking that $118 from justsuspension is a great deal.

Someone please convince me if I am wrong or if Monroes are not good or something ... otherwise I will be purchasing these, putting them on and hoping that my wheel clunk will go way and not be something else like one of the TSBs or ... maybe it's something easier like Sway Bar Bushings/Mounts or something ...

Figured I would just start with the struts and go from there.

Thanks, in advance - very informative community

Basically what it comes down to is that the FE5 suspension (what you have) is great. The newer suspension on the ss/tc also FE5 is a little better than the ss/sc suspension. Everything else aka the monroe stuff is a downgrade, gm spent a lot of time developing the fe5 setup.

if u want cheap buy monroe... if u want stock/upgrade buy the ss/tc fe5 setup from crate engine depot.

if ur replacing it y not upgrade unless u culd care less

sway bar end links are a huge issue, a cheap fix get the monroe ones, there thicker and greasable, u can get them from rock auto for the best price.

Thanks for the info - OK - SO ABOVE LINKS ARE DOWNGRADE (I may actually unlink then for ADD people like me).

Can I get a Link to CAD(or other) quickkit? for FE5?
is there a quick kit?

The Monroe's is actually what comes up when I go to O'Riley's online and enter 06/SS/2.0SC ... so they are indicating or under the assumption that these are proper replacements ...

Just installed moog endlinks and sway bar bushings on my 06 ss/sc with 122k miles and made a huge difference. No more clunking on speedbumps or every other bump in the road. I would start with the endlinks and sway bar bushings. The moogs are greaseable as well. I think I spent like 65-70 bucks for everything on ebay.

umm quick kit never heard of it before, but if ur looking to just replace struts, u dont need the springs that the quick kit comes with.

here is the link to CED : Cobalt Struts, Shocks and Components

Just wondering but why would you pay that much when gmpartsdirect.com has the same struts for $85.

I'm under the assumption that quick kit (I guess I mean "Quick Strut")=
Spring, Mount, Strut
All in one, so you just undo the whole thing and drop it in, instead of moving the springs from the 1st strut to the next ... Seems way easier?ż

Thanks also for the other suggestions regarding clunk noise.

Struts won't be the cause of a clunk, almost guaranteed. At your mileage its the sway endlinks as said above and or your trailing control arm bushing. They're simple twisting rubber with voids cut in them, just asking to wear out and eventually fail. You can replace with very cheap stockers or get fantastic spherical upgrades that free up friction in your front suspension and will never wear out. Endlinks have a great permanent upgrade as well in the form of the adjustable length Powergrid brand

OK guys ... after reading ... and reading some more ...

It appears that:
-The Monroe's I linked above aren't very good at all ... (even other sites indicate they're cheap and the included springs may not even match)

The CED FE5 Front and Rears are here:HHR FE5 Strut and Shock Pkg FE5-H ($312 @ Time of Posting)

I Minus Whale do the Springs ... since there is no FE5 Quick-Kit to be found anywhere - Powell YYZs:
Powell YYZ V2 Spring Pkg YYZ V.2 ($332 @ Time of Posting)

What am I missing ... Mounts and Spring Seats?

I'm gonna need 2 sway bar end links right?
Cobalt FE5 Stabalizer End Link 05-08 20784688
(Did someone mention some better Moog's? Link Please?)

Looks like I'm also gonna need a link to some sway bar bushings ...

Thanks Guys!

I think I'm getting close ...

EDIT: Mounts and Bearings http://www.crateenginedepot.com/CED-...24039C948.aspx ($64) ... I think I'm all set ... someone just link me some Moog End Links

Chevrolet Cobalt 2006, Moog Suspension Parts.

Try that. End links and sway bar bushings. Make sure you get the 9.86 links and the 24 mm bushings.
