2008 2LT Drum to Disc Questions

Hello all,

I did some searching on here and it seems to me that everyone's issue with this is that they have to go from a 4-lug pattern to a 5-lug pattern. So before you start into me about all of that, my car is a 5 lug.

I am going to keep researching this on my own, but incase anyone on here knows...

your car is a 5 lug and has rear drums??? are you sure? they must have only done that in '08, but it doesnt make sense.

not trying yo high-jack, but I was thinking the other day. A lot of guys have started threads about trying to convert to rear drums on there 4 lug by using parts off of a SS.
I was thinking maybe we could use some from like a honda or something. Get the rotors of a newer honda and use the calipers from the SS, theres obviously more to it, thats just my basic thought.

2LT's come with 5 lug......1 Lt's and LS models come with 4 lug. My 07 was a 2LT and it had 5 lugs...

Hmm, I wonder if it would work, I seriously even think that there was a 4 wheel disc option for the 2lts...

I say just paint the drums... Changing is going to be a lot of work for something that is not going to make that much of a difference in the look.

But what benefits are there by having discs in the rear.

Does it increase stopping ability.

90% of the breaking is from the front...It's just a visual amelioration...Instead of having drums, you put discs..

My mechanic told me the best is discs in front and drums in rear...

I have 5 lug wheels on my 07 Cobalt2LT also, I am also very interested in this matter but its not worth it. I'll just wait a year or 2 and get a SS/TC.

all good responses here....and right on dont even think about it. Anbd Disc/drum pratcially all season are easier to maintain, but the brake adjustment is a pain. 4 wheel disc rocks BUT Paint the drums thats a great idea. even better get a new LNF next year....5 lug and 4 lug came with abs in 07, I was corrected the other day by a member, thats amazing, the abs supplier to GM for the cobalt changed in 06/07 and they did some funny stuff with 4 and 5 lug wheels. I dont know why they didnt just go 5 on everything, and its a mystery to me why they use this funky bolt circle that limits wheel selection, but otherwise a great car....but redlines are lighter and dont get door dings....

actually its about 70%F-30%R and your drums get fluid before the front disc's. if you go to a rear disc set up you have to chenge the proportioning valve. other wise your wheel will most likely want to lock in the rear before the front even hit. it wont brake right. find an SS/SC in a junk yard and swap the whole rear axle.

mastermike is right; to make it more difficult the brake proportioning is in the abs unit so good luck with that and GM changed suppliers for the ABS so they dont interchange 05 to 07 etc...and technically with dynamic rear brake proportioning its a nightmare best not visited....buy an LNF
