ANOTHER steering wheel shaking thread

well my steering wheel is shaking again very annoying.
rear drums and shoes are 4 months old. and the front rotors and pads are a year old (got the installed from gm brand new installed)

im thinking it could be maby the adjustment screw for the rear drums because the 1st clown who resurfaced the drums ruined them and gave me either used or shitty shoes because the pedal went to the floor .2nd shop put brand new drums and shoes on and adjusted everything and the pedal was alot better but i dont know if its too tight or anything like that. but going downhil and braking gives me the classic shimmy of the wheel and even sometimes braking going 35-40 gives me shaking.

what could it be? any possible way the front rotors are shot bc gm garbage? if so ill get powersport slotted and hawk pads.
i have NEVER gotten new control arms bushings or anything. i think im actually going to get a free brake estimate done today or tomorrow to see.
but i got an alignment last year. i put my summer rims on back in the end of march and didnt get them balanced but it doesnt seem that off. maby a little. would that have any effect in my problem?

08 ls btw 4 lug. let me know what you guys think also i DID NOT balance my rims for this season. they were balanced last season. will THAT be my problem?

Balance the wheels, check to see how bent they are. If that comes back ok, get your front rotors check for runout. The rear has nothing to do with a steering wheel vibration. If you feel the vibration in your but, or body, it's rear. A steering wheel vibration is always a front end issue.
Start with a balance, make sure the wheels arn't bent, then get the rotors checked for run out, then if all that comes back clean look at your control arm bushings and ball joints.

does it vibrate all the time or only when you're on the bakes?

^ BLKLS not a bad start, but IMO i would rotate the tires front to rear first and see if anything changes. if it moves to the rear or goes away, balance is the issue. i would get them balanced. if not, then check the rotors.

edit, just re-read the OP. sounds like rotors to me.

No mines just kinda speed related. It happens randomly too. Brakes dont affect it.

Dart, get your wheels balanced and checked for bent.

If the front wheels are out of balance then my bet is the other two are also, just get them balanced. I've seen too many bent wheels make strange vibrations at different times to rule them out. But yeah it could be rotors.

my friend said he can balance the rims for free.
and i took the rims off before winter and when i put em on this season put the rims that were in front last season in back and backs in front
and its a little bit of vibration in my body but the wheel shakes a tad and makes like a clicking sound bc of the vibration.
the kid i know works at a tire shop and he said he would balance and check the front end.
maby the adjustment screw on the drums is too tight causing too much pedal pressure to brake? and has to be loosend a little? im having him maby tomorrow look at it
but if my rotors are fucked than ill just get powerslot's with hawk pads i mean i had the rotors that i bought with the car resurfaced 2 years after i got the car and than finally replaced a year later. so maby they really are crap from the start

did you put the wheels on with an impact gun? may have bent the rotors. have you friend take a look at it and let us know what he finds.

If your buddy is gonna balance them, make sure he knows what he's doing. Not trying to insult, if anyone with half a brain balances a wheel they can look at it and see if it's bent, and that's the best place to start.

Even with a breaker bar its still possible to Overtight them and bend a rotor..happened to me.
The best way is to use a torque wrench and do it to spec that way everyones a happy camper.

Its the rotors for sure, had the same issue, thought it was an alignment or something because mine used to vibrate even when not braking. Got new rotors and Hawk pads on, vibes gone.

I have StopTech drilled rotors and love them

Was gonna buy some a few months back from a guy on here, turned out to be a scammer anyway. Dodged that bullet haha

But ya, go with slotted. I like the look of drilled better, not much difference in the two
