Brake drum question

Car was inspected a few months ago and was told it'd need brakes in the rear. I know the wear ratio to discs, but do you think I need to replace the drums along with the pads? I need to buy a few other parts and saving on one could be greatly used elsewhere. Car has 59,xxx on the clock and car isn't thrashed too much daily. Mucho gracias for the help!

If you're putting new shoes on you should have the drums turned, but unless they are in terrible shape you shouldn't need to replace them.

I would just get the drums turned if they are in useable condition still.

I will find out today after work and tear into it to see how they look. In theory they should be able to turn. Thanks for the help!

You need to have the drums turned when replacing the brake shoes and the shop you get them turned at can tell if you need new ones or not.

How did you kill drums in 59k? Kinda sounds like the shop was looking for work. I drove the crap outta my base model had 93k when I traded it and the drums where fine (ebrake held and could slow the car down with the ebrake). The front brakes do a good majority of the braking

Upon removing, the shoes looked as good as the ones the ups guy dropped off which leads me to believe the drums were good too, minus a score in the one. The car was inspected at Monroe last time because I'm in between shops and it was convenient. Shady shops anyhow. Whatever. 30 bucks for pads, 20 for turns and some beers, got it done. Let's just say I found the least favorite part of the car despite the job being somewhat easy. Haha.
